I've regularly meditated since I was 16 and it's massively +EV for poker and for life. I feel kind of weird talking about it though. I'd just get a book on it and read tbh.

I was shown basic breathing techniques (which meditation is based) for a minor medical condition on and it's fucking great. Completely chills you out. Thinking about it, I should do it more often.

I grew up in a cult where everyone meditated and I still meditate today. If your looking to remove stress from your life I'd recommend it.

    any good links???????

    on techniques/breathing?

I seem to suck at meditation these days unless in a hot bath + pitch black room.

I seem to beleive that poker and meditation can go hand in hand. Ive cme across the breathing exercises thru google which my gf has recommended and they can be easily done at the tables. If I find it really works for me then I suppose illget hooked.

Yeah but if you still have the need to calm down, what's the point.

I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not. It would sorta make sense, but it sorta doesn't.

I do yoga and I would recommend it to anyone. I treat it mostly as a body excercise, but it is a good relaxation at the same time.

I was learning and practicing kundalini yoga about 5 years ago, then in a few months heard horror stories about how if you dont have a teacher(or whatever they cal it, forgot the word) you can really hurt yourself.

Since then I was going to learn more about different yogas/or doing kundalini properly but never got around to it. Thinking of starting again now. Where did you guys start learning about it?

well the technique that we learned isnt like you just read a book and do it. you have to go to the courses and stuff, and it is a process. heres the main website for it.

I meditate regularly and do dream yoga (lucid dreaming with the goal of sometimes meditating in a lucid dream)

highly reccomended not just for stress relief but for spiritual exploration.

    Lucid dream

Hypnos and Thanatos, Sleep and His Half-Brother Death by John William WaterhouseWikibooks has a book on the topic of
Lucid DreamingA lucid dream, also known as a conscious dream, is a dream in which the person is aware that he or she is dreaming while the dream is in progress. During lucid dreams, it is possible to exert conscious control over the dream characters and environment and have them perform feats which would be physically impossible in the waking world. Lucid dreams can be extremely real and vivid depending on a person's level of self-awareness during the lucid dream.[1]

The best book (IMO) is Stephen LaBerge's Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming. Stanford prof who took some insight from buddhist lamas who did dream yoga, along with his own scientific method, as much as you can possibly use the scientific method. He mentions many induction techniques.

    Two simple induction methods are
    1) Reality Checks
    2) Goal Affirmations before sleep

#1 being the most important, #2 to supplement it.

A reality check is something we do in "waking" life (no movie pun intended, btw i hated that movie as its nothing like dreaming or lucid dreaming) to check whether or not we are dreaming. The main purpose is to get us in a habit that will appear in a dream that will cause us to be lucid.

I like to say "Reality Check" outloud or in my head, then look at something that is very clearly fixed, such as writing or a clock. Look directly at it, at each possible detail along with what is actually written. Spell the words out or repeat them slowly or read the clock slowly then look away, then look back at what you read. Do this 3 times. In a dream 99% of time it will be different in an obvious way.

Try to do this as often as possible. Sometimes I set an alarm, sometimes I also have signs in my house that say 'reality' check in random places. i had one on the dashboard of my car until someone mentioned it may be a bad idea when i got pulled over. haha

#2 is just reminding yourself to LD before bed, and affirming that you will and can do it.

when I want to lucid dream a lot, I set my phone to a RC reminder hourly. This is very effective in habit building which will appear frequently in dreams. However, its most effective when you actually pick out situations in real life that seem strange or unusual (e.g. someone who swears off meat perhaps eats a bite of chicken) which are more correlative to dreams. When you can spontaneously RC based on strange RL things, you will be able to lucid dream on average of at least 5 times a night, counting 2 dreams in a night when you lose lucidity but regain it in a later dream or during the same dream.

That basic method will get you very, very frequent lucid dreams if you are diligent. But you have to want it.

IMO meditation is taught out of order. I would first get good at dream yoga, do at least one WILD (A wake induced lucid dream), then attempt meditation. The WILD take some practice, and is pretty awesome. You go into a dream aware, sucked out of your "real" body into your "Dream" body. Requires you are going directly into REM sleep however, such as waking up in the middle of the night or taking a nap.
