    Default Bigred's Futbol/Soccer Thread

Let's talk soccer (football for the euros).

What do people think of Jurgen Klinsmann coaching for the states?

Why is Arsenal so bad with off season and signing new players? When will Fabregas go to Barcelona? Will Arsenal keep Nasri?

Anyone been watching the U-20 World cup?

    There's only one Arsene Wenger,
    Only one Arsene Wenger,
With a packet of sweets and a cheeky smile,
    Wenger is a fucking peadophile.

klinsmann is probably the best US is going to do, and i really enjoyed watching him as a jit in europe, idk how proven he is as a coach, but he was definitely one hell of a player.

govinho is good...Barcelona set to make final push for Fabregas for the latest on fabregas (came out an hour ago), i think arsenal will pull the trigger, as its pretty obvious fabregas wants to go to barca imo...but who knows, its entirely possible he stays.

I think nasri will stay with arsenal, over going to man city.

and i havent really been watching the u20's figured id start when it got to the knockouts...i saw england draw north korea which was whack as shit but other than that

are we gonna get another fantasy football going?

    $10 winner takes all?

Never mind all this Premier League nonsense - West Ham have signed Kevin Nolan and Matty Taylor. I'm sticking £100 on them romping the league.

Cesc is as good as gone. Nasri is more of a problem, with 1 yr left on his contract, its 22m now or nothing next yr. But if they sell them both they'll struggle to attract top talent. Horrible dilemma for wenger. This could signal the demise of arsenal if it doesn't get worked out. And the crazy wages offered by city plus a realistic chance of winning something is a hell of an incentive for Nasri.

Just hope utd get sneijder, otherwise we'll struggle this season.

Men's US Roster posted for Wednesday's game against Mexico.

Klinsmann Calls In 22 Players to Face Mexico on Aug. 10 in Philadelphia - U.S. Soccer

I understand not bringing Dempsey or Altidore across the pond for one friendly. I would have liked to see Charlie Davies in that lineup over Beasely.

I'm also excited Klinnsman invited Brek Shea who's having a breakout season in the MLS this year.

i wish klinnsman would have bought up Gomes as well and given him another shot. And i do agree i'd rather have seen davies over beasely, but davies hasnt had the best of years and this is his first real year back since the car accident, so its a high risk situation.

edit- lol "high risk", i guess we are talking about a bench spot during a friendly game lol, put davies on the roster

Exactly, I think Klinnsman has like 5-8 months of friendlies before any real kind of qualifying match. I think we need to get Agudelo playing as many minutes as humanly possible to get him experience. The kid has talent but needs to make better decisions. Same goes for Tim Ream who I'm convinced has at least one seizure a game.

Liverpool were forced to sell Fernando Torres to Chelsea, and while he struggles in London, his replacements are doing very well at Liverpool. If Arsenal have to sell their two stars, they need to spend the money well. That's the real test of Arsehole Wanker's managerial skills.

But I couldn't give a flying fuck about the Premier League. My team got relegated, so bollocks to the Prem. Championship is where it's at this season, it's going to be close between West Ham, Birmingham (my team), Leicester, Reading and perhaps Hull, Derby, Blackpool, Cardiff, Leeds and Nottm Forest. That's ten teams capable of getting promoted. We're in a mess at the moment, but we have a great new manager, so hopefully he'll get us playing good football very soon.

As for Jurgen Klinsmann, he was such an awesome player, he commands respect purely for his acheivements. Time will tell if he's a good coach or not, but I would be pleased with his appointment if I were a Yank.

Torres did look pretty good in first half. Second half was all about the subs of Shea, Agudelo, and Rodgers. I'd say it was a very impressive showing, but as you said, I'm not sure how engaged Mexico was at the end.

Impressive for the subs that is. Rest of the team, besides our skipper and a few lone runs by Torres, looked like shit. I saw Edson Buddle announced in the starting lineup but did he hide in the locker room the whole time?

La Liga 2009-2010 - Football - Reports: Cesc signs for Barcelona - Eurosport Australia
so apparently they turned down 35 million pounds (according to BigRed's link) for what is believed to be between 27-30 million pounds!?...

    Red:

Klinsmann is perfect. He knows his shit. Fabregas will be a Barcelona player this weekend and Nasri is off to City. Big test for Arsenal but they can still have a good season if Wenger gets Jagielka and Samba or Cahill to shore up the defence.

One thing that always happens with Arsenal and Wenger down the years is that people take the piss and write them off and then they surprise everybody. I'm not saying they're going to win the league (United will) but it's high time people started respecting Arsene.

As always - I don't know where to start. Birmingham look monumentally fucked. I refuse to believe that it can be "close" between almost half the league. We shat on Leeds last week without trying. And so on.......

Funny how lots of the big teams had good first-halves, crap second-halves this weekend.

Worrying sign that Arsenal *should have won*. That happened too many times last season and in other seasons. They really shoulda won the league last time out.

Arsenal and Barca now officially in agreement over Fabregas - BBC Sport - Arsenal and Barcelona agree to Cesc Fabregas switch

So Arsenal get a 1-0 lead over Udinese with a second league to be played in Italy. Was the showing as lackluster as it seemed from the gamecast commentary?
