    Default boost smokes alone

    sup homies,

Was heading home from a friends place, but on the way out I asked him to break me off some bud. I got tacos from the best place in the city on the way home, and then I smoked. I'm about to watch a movie and eat my tacos. I have not smoked in months iirc, and I honestly think this is the first time I've ever smoked alone.

    sup bigred,

I used to prefer smoking alone

It was a ritual. Midnight, blazed, driving on an empty freeway, heavy metal

    sup wuf,

do you ever fear that you'll become the next Ted Kazinsky?

Also I just watched ep 12 of firefly. This show is fucking awesome. I'm still not sure if its just one super long B-movie- well it's definitely one super long B-movie, but the question is: Do the creators know this, or are they taking themselves seriously?

If I had a dangerous bone in my body I would have killed myself a long time ago. I'm more of a sentimental who's afraid of the sentimental

Firefly is many things. Very few shows can boast that.

I think what you're seeing is simply excellent storytelling. While there are rules for good storytelling, there are none for the excellent. Like if you want to be a good guitarist, you need to understand the rules, but if you want to be one of the best guitarists, you have to make up your own

    sup gabe,

I watched this flick called Wristcutters: A Love Story. It was pretty fucking awesome. I didn't really know what to expect.. the boxart was really misleading, it turned out to be a pretty hilarious dark comedy.

edit: its on netflix instant watch right now.

finished the series, gonna watch the movie when I smoke the rest of this joint imo.
  17. #17
I only smoke alone or with other people.
  18. #18
I would say that most drugs are best when alone or with people you really like. Getting high with people you don't have particular care for is probably the worst way to do it

Serenity was good, but Firefly is better

while we are discussing this show... can someone explain why they curse in chinese? It's probably my least favorite aspect of the show. It always feels super forced and.. well.. stupid..

They curse in English as well, and I recall that they use Chinese for more than cursing.

It's to create a fantasy world that is like ours but also not like ours. A logistical explanation could be that in the future, Earth's languages are almost entirely English and Chinese. Battlestar Galactica tried something like this, but failed miserably since 14 year olds make awful writers

Also, WRT it being a B-film. I wouldn't call it that, but partly because I call nothing B-rated. Take a look at the original Star Wars. Those are about 5x more B-rated than Firefly, yet we love them, and the B-ratedness is honestly part of why we love them.

    It's a shop and it's hilarious

I have a love/hate thing for Barry. On the one hand, he's a bigger corporatist than arguably any president in history, but on the other hand, it appears that much of that corporatism is because if he doesn't he loses. Carter didn't, and he got destroyed because of it. Clinton did, and we love him now. Barry's presidency is so weird. Only with him do you get disgusting policy like the kinds of tax cuts he did, but then awesome policy like the CFPB headed up by Warren

So Barry kicking down a door is great, regardless of truth. Not sure if it's part of an old Chappelle sketch, but it does fit the persona Barry has about seeming to be too controlled when under heat. It might not surprise anybody if he actually did that

Out of interest, how much did Obamacare fuck up healthcare corporations profits?

Not that easily quantifiable right now, but the answer is that their profits haven't been screwed. They have lost out on things like attempts to control administrative costs, but they gain out big time on mandatory coverage. This could change big time too since most effects aren't coming in for years. Not to mention that the corps have a monopoly on the market, and they've already started exploiting that in protest to the new law

It's more that if the corporations did it the way they envision, it's 50 mph towards profits, while the way Obama wants it's only 30 mph towards profits. Barry didn't fix shit, and the corps are going to win out big time over the long term by fighting and exploiting loopholes and stuff.

There's simply too much money on their side. It doesn't really matter what the law says, it matters who buys the interpreters of the law. Judges are breaking the law every day, but because they're the arbiters, they can say it's not breaking and lo n behold they're right. This is why Obama hasn't changed anything. The corps are still going to put the money in the right places and they're going to find ways around most of the barriers of any insurance reform

Those posting in this thread should watch this movie: The Man from Earth (2007) - IMDb

Don't read any part of the synopsis because I did and wish I hadn't.

I already dropped it in the Movie Recs thread, but I've watched it twice with a bunch of people and it's a movie every one likes and no one's heard of.

added to instant cue... might smoke alone again tonight for the hat-trick and watch this. I am a big fan of learning as little as you can about a movie before watching it. Obv this is hard when you're trying to find a diamond in the rough, but it tends to make movies more enjoyable I think.

If you use netflix as a recommendations system, and then decide what to watch based on IMDB ratings, it works great. That is probably the best current system to get good movies to date

Do it! I know that a bunch of people around these parts will like it and only jyms has watched it thus far.

Letting some green smoke kiss the sky before firing this movie up is highly recommended.

Ya, this is pretty much my system. It's how I found Wristcutters: A love story, which is one of my favorite recent watches. I think I already mentioned it in the movies thread, but I didn't see anyone respond saying they've watched it.

I'm gonna get around to it since I've started watching stuff again. Problem is that I've been doing series instead of movies right now. Rewatched Rome, doing Firefly again, on second season of Breaking Bad...
  33. #33
Ya, I've been doing series too, firefly and always sunny. Always sunny is amazing and I haven't even gotten to the part where DeVito is put on the cast.

just finished The Man from Earth. Solid movie imo. Maybe this is because I'm high, but it really felt like I was reading a book. I mean if you think about it, this could have been presented on the radio with very few alterations to the script. What a great use of a tiny budget.. that could have been made for <$50,000.

heard they are slowly banning it in amsterdam and it will soon be avaliable only to Dutch citizens. What will become of the country
  47. #47
weird, I wonder why.. I smoked a spliff and I put a decent amount in and it was just like smoking weed. But honestly I'm prob gonna just give away the rest, cuz I really dislike smoking tobacco. Or maybe I'll bake it into something..
  48. #48
i can't handle hash at all. shit makes my lungs explode. when i was in amsterdam last year i got to sample a lot of different potent pot, which was all incredible, but hash made me cough like i had never smoked in my life.

    just hash? or all pot?
  49. #49
Thats funny, it was the opposite for me, I don't think I coughed once smoking hash, but always cough when smoking weed. Tbh, I want to get away from smoking all together, I'd rather just make edibles. I hate the way my lungs feel when I smoke.
  50. #50
That's why I want to get a good vaporizer. I like the idea of the edibles, but I've never really been pleased with how well they work. They seem to work great for everyone else who eats them, but not for me.

i bought a vaporizer last year, shit is insane. i think when smoking from a pipe/joint you get like 20% thc and the rest goes up in smoke. but with a vaporizer you get 80-90% thc, so your bud lasts longer, you can smoke less, you're only smoking vapor so it's less harsh on your lungs, and you get hiiiiiiiigh. definitely worth it if you're even just a recreational smoker.

also a fan of making cannabutter, but only with strong flavored treats. i made choc chip cookies and all i could taste was pot. much better with peanut butter cookies or even better with brownies. only thing i dislike about eating is how dry my mouth gets, and the fact that i someone end up tied to my chair.

    edit - ship page 2

I really like the taste weed gives to food. It is really strong though, so while I personally wouldn't be looking to mask it, I would want to pair it with stuff that stands up to it.

If I could hop in my 85 delorean, go back to 1983, and convince the casting director for Ghost Busters to let me pick the four actors to play the lead rolls, I would pick: Bruce Willis, Kurt Russel, Val Kilmer, and Christopher Walkin.

    Discuss.

It's tough to outclass Bill Murray as Venkman or Harold Ramis as Egon and Dan Aykroyd did write it.

I would probably time travel back and veto you by pointing out to the hollywood bigwigs that you think you're from the future and should be institutionalized.

Besides that, if you're taking the delorean, what other choices do I have to slip back in time? a hottub time machine? Or a butterfly effect journal from 3 years before I was born? Timetraveling machines in movies all suck.

I agree that the original cast is something awesome, but I would have already seen the original cast. So it would be a massively selfish move, but I would be able to experience both the original and the recast.

Also, I take issue with you dissing the 1.21 jigawatt, flux capacitor powered, 85 delorean. It's likely that it is the coolest time machine ever invented.
