    Default Buying a desk

I need to buy a desk for my apartment. I plan on using it for work on poker so it will usually have 2-3 laptops on it or 2-3 monitors depending on what I'm doing. I don't currently have a desktop computer but eventually will so a shelf for the tower is fine. Suggestions?

    Build it.

How tall are your ceilings? I lofted my queen size bed and built my own desk underneath. Its wicked awesome.

    No hindsight for the blind.
I'm gonna get a simple rectangular height-adjustable desk with no shelves or other crap when I finally get my own place. Right now Im sitting at a huge corner desk with way too much junk like CD holders, shelves, cabinet doors, keyboard shelf and what not. With all this shit, I can't even fit the monitors properly. lol it tilts me just thinking about it.

Best picture I could find of the desk part. Its from towards the end of construction so its not completely done here, but atleast you can see it. You can see the bowing of the desk, which needed to be supported. I ran a 2x4 underneath the front lip and it solved it. Don't have a picture of that, though.

Here you can see the framing for the desk area.

Most of those horizontal 2x4s on the right are gone (they were made as a temporary ladder so I could get on top. Replaced with one diagonal from corner to corner which is more stable.) Other than that, its about the same. Added some shelving...

The initial idea was to have a curved desk, but I decided it just wasn't worth the work. So it's flat, VERY deep (the desk itself is about 6'6 long and 3' deep) and my girlfriend put shelves up.

I remember liking VQC's setup, any advice vincent?

Euph, is that a twin bed? I have a Queen size. Plus, bunk bed sex FTL

Its a queen, and I've done the mambo in it plenty of times. It doesnt move, swear. The thing is very solid. I built it basically the same way people build decks on their houses.

i bought my desk used on craigslist for 70 bucks.
Its an Ikea desk and I think it is this one http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60111123

The best tables imo are ones that:
    1) dont have 4 legs. (e.g. the Fredrik). You want as much leg room and swivel room as possible. This also allows for spinning when you do not want to work.

    2) are super deep (I think mine is ~36 inches deep). It is NECESSARY to have a deep desk if you are going to put your monitors on it AND do work on it. Right now I have space to put a textbook and my keyboard one in front of the other without running into my monitors

    3) are a combination of multiple tables. E.g.
My current work place is made up of 2 smaller desks from my last year in undergrad (Staples 70 bucks each new) and a large main desk.

My buddy built his desk from Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/ca...rkspace/11722/
you can assemble some pretty baller tables with the important criteria from there.
