From what she's seen, a pinky with sugar water is used as a pacifier - most of them cry when being snipped, but she's been surprised that a couple haven't. And all of the ones she's seen calm down after it's done. She equated it more on the spectrum of ear piercing than to an amputation (I think it's got to be a little worse than an ear piercing). That said, she agrees that unless there are religious beliefs behind it, it is simply an unnecessary cosmetic procedure. But people frequently cause themselves pain for cosmetics (piercings, tatoos, etc.).
I guess I think there are more important things in the world to get your panties in a bunch over than this.
personally i couldnt care less about that particular point i made, but i made it to point out disruptions in the masses' rationale, and because its the type of thing that most other people care about except somehow they dont realize its applicable in circumcisions.
even then this is a great example of arbitrary morality. forcing this type of a procedure on an adult would result in the perpetrator spending many years in prison (even if its the equivalent to a piercing). somehow this does not apply to newborns.
you are right that there are better things to get panty wadded over. i was hanging out with the fam the whole day yesterday, and they're a bunch of bigots, so yea
