agree re: mp40. most of the wall guns suck to upgrade, the only one that's decent is the ak47u, but going to the alley is dildoes so you might as well just find the box after mp40 room and get something decent to upgrade. Mp40 still kicks ass until round 9+ where it starts to get a little weak so I'll usually hold down there with 2players+ until round 8 or 9 then go turn on power, whore the box up to find something worth upgrading.
Best guns to upgrade in order of awesomeness:
HK
RPK
Galil
Aug (some will say aug > galil cuz you get the shotgun attachment, and meybe it is, but galil/aug are rly close imo)
Commando
FN-FAL
G11
...
other crap that I wouldn't waste money upgrading (except for bowie knife+ballistic knives for their supermedic value or crossbow for turning into monkies, but meh I'd rather have lots of bullets to pwn with)
And re: upgrading shotguns, the HS-10 is the best shotgun to upgrade cuz you get dual weild shotgunners. spazz is the best non-upgraded shotgun tho followed by stakeout prolly.
guns like the famas, spectre, mp40, MP5k all suck to upgrade cuz they just don't have enough ammo. zambies is all about surviving the distance and you need a shitton of ammo for that.
Oh and the starting pistol is actually a surprisingly awesome upgrade cuz it turns into mustang & sally which is the double pistols that shoot grenades. if you go down with quick revive on single player you get these temporarily and can test their awesomeness but having them permanently can be a lifesaver if you respawn fresh on rnd 20 with tons of cash and no gun.
