    Default College question

I'm back in school at age 47, yipee. Decided I might as well try and finish a degree since I have a little free time on my hands.

Anyhow, Im taking an online goverment class and need to find some social science definitions. Anyone know a good free online dictionary that list social science definitions seperate from other definitions? I've been to dictionary.com and Websters online dictionary. But both those just give definitions and not a seperate social science definition. So Im trying to determine which def is the social science one.

Ex: Government. Webster gives 6 definitions, but doesnt say which one is the social science definition.

If your school subscribes to any scholarly journals check them out. They would be linked from your school's library's website.

They have very specific subjects, and often go back like 75 years. The subscriptions are expensive, but most post-secondary schools have at least some.

Shouldn't you be able to figure out which one it is if you're taking the class?

Good question. No, just because your taking a class doesnt mean you know about the class. Im taking it to learn about it. Plus its required.

It is really helpful to get a textbook for this type of thing.

I have the textbook. He just told us the definitions could be found in most dictionary's. He said not all the definitions he wanted us to look up was in the textbook. But most of them were.

    try here? http://bitbucket.icaap.org/

i think in general, you're fine just using whatever definition seems to be fine according to common sense. government probably has a lot of different ways it can be defined but they all mean the same thing.

I know this, and still tend to look things up on wikipedia if I don't know them.

Of course, if it's something that actually matters, I'll always get it verified elsewhere. But wikipedia entries are almost always correct, so for less important things, wikipedia is fine.

yeah, wikipedia is good for looking up general stuff, but if it was really important, i would verify with another source

As a general rule, whenever I don't know something I am always very careful not to ask gabe for advice first.
