Having this knowledge might just be enough to help him (and her) actually make it work (whatever "make it work" means to them in this situation.)

I'm sure this goes without saying, but even if the relationship does sour, be sure to be the best parent you can be. Start now... start reading. Don't wait until your hand is raised to decide whether or not you'll spank/hit your kid. Don't just figure that it will all works itself out.
