I skipped to the last episode. I don't remember when I stopped watching dexter I just remember that the writing got unbelievably terrible, and apparently nothing has changed. This doesn't feel like a professional writer wrote that script. A professional writer has studied literature or journalism, has written articles, been through workshop, has work published. A professional writer will not write a dialogue that goes like:

'I am pointing a gun at you so you have to do as I say'
'I will do what you want me to do, please don't hurt me'
'I will not hurt you if you come with me.'
'If you let me go I won't tell anybody'
'I won't let you go so you don't tell anybody'

Anyone who has seen the last episode can confirm that this is exactly how the scene with the veterenarian went.
There's a term in movies for when you describe to the audience what's happening in the scene while the scene is going on. If someone knows it, please remind me. Anyway, the consensus is that this is bad and you don't do it. In Dexter this is all they ever do.

Laziest fucking writing. The heartbreaking part is how Jennifer Carpenter acts her heart out to the worst TV script ever written. She deserves all the credit. She'll get the part she deserves sooner or later, but what a waste of talent. I sympathize with the rest of the cast. There's a moment when Dexter is at Deb's hospital bed, he sais his line, and right after you can see that all he's thinking is: I cannot believe that that was my line.
