Does anyone want in on Diaspora?

For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's another facebook alternative. It's still in Alpha and there are currently even less people there than on Google+, but it's got potential. It seems that if privacy and control over your data is important to you, this might be the way to go.

I'm kinda cynical in the ability of anyone to become a real threat to facebook in the near future. It's just so entrenched in our society. Facebook would have to screw up way more than they ever have to loose their foothold in the social media market.

I'm not happy about it, there's certainly the potential for much better implementations, but a better product doesn't guarantee success. Arguably, google+ already is a better product, they just got to the market too late.

It's hard to disagree with you, but the same thing could have been, and probably was, said about myspace, yahoo, and others.

I think it would be great if this could be the one to do it. I like that it's open and decentralized.

True, but I think facebook is more entrenched than either of those examples with higher adoption rates than we've seen since...the microsoft windows operating system.

At any rate, I wish them well as I fucking hate facebook, and Diaspora seems to be doing it right.
