You must download a lot of porn to ever approach filling up a fucking terabyte.

ha, I knew I'd get that comment. 800gb of lossless music ftw. 4 friends and I ripped all of our large CD collections in lossless wma format and shared them. It's pretty sweet.

Running an mp4 video library hooked up to a media server connected to a TV also takes up a bunch of space. The Terrabyte isn't what it used to be.

If I were getting an external drive I would go to someplace like TigerDirect and buy a case. Then you can put in whatever drive you want. The benefit of this is you get eSATA, Firewire and usb connections instead of just usb like most.

Wait...are we sure this is what your wife meant by external hard drive? Maybe she needs someone else to satisfy her while you're daydreaming about Lukie?

Why is that? Same size as any other external drive you'd buy off the shelf, but it gives you more connection options and allows you to select the drive you want.

eSATA transfer speed 2500, Firewire 800 and USB 400. Not really a decision to be made if you ask me.

you're right hiltz. the only difference is price really and even that isn't a huge difference.

is there a noticeable difference between whatever u ripped the music at and say 128kbps?

i'm considering ripping everything again, esp. since i'm getting some new balla headphones, just wondering if it's worth the effort?

I haven't done extensive testing, but I can tell a difference between stuff ripped at 128kbps and 192kbps. We did it in lossless because a) my friends are audio geeks, b) memory was cheap enough (and much cheaper now even), c) we didn't want to ever do it again. Do some tests ripping in different formats/bit rates and see what you think. I'd be curious to hear.

to me lossless is negligible to 192.

def a difference between 192 and 128. I thought supposedly 192 was perfect quality, until the lossless came out recently

Might be dumb question but Amazon sells mp3s for like 256 kbs? Is that lossless?

Not lossless, but getting closer. Lossless files are still about 3-5 times bigger than 256kbps mp3s. But I bet your average person would have a really hard time telling them apart. Another reason the Amazon mp3 store rocks iTunes. And sometime soon their catalog should be expanding big-time.

    max vbr ftw

probably realistically around ~224kbps on average.
but be sure to put EAC on 240kbps vbr mp3[you'll get best possible mp3 quality this way], (might even try 150 kbps mp3pro, dunno if itunes supports those)

but all this quality is a moot point if you listen to your music with $5 cans. you are gonna hear real differences if you are listening through a pair of these.

Very interested in everyone's opinion and yours on this. I never understood why someone would pay so much for headphones. I know nothing about headphones though so I am really curious, not being an ass.

cause i'm making $$$ from poker and i have to blow it on something!

srsly tho, the difference in quality in sound is huge between cheap headphones and cheap ones. Cheap ones have a really thin, distorted sound, and the sound gets even worse when u turn up the volume.

good headphones have a really clear deep broad sound and it gets better the louder you have them, i have a decent set of sennheiser headphones that i picked up for only about €50 or so, and people are blown away by the difference between them and the ones they have.

plus the noise cancellation ones cost more.

with a good set you'll hear stuff in the song that you never heard before as they deliver a much wider sound. I don't think I'm explaining this very well, i dunno, if you go to a shop and try out some different sets you really will notice a big difference.

it's defo worth spending at least $50 imo.

Not to mention, noise cancellation will actually save your hearing because you don't have to listen to your shit at such a high volume

@ phantomlord: for music or for gaming?

    for gaming get these
for music, these or these, and if you are ballin', these

Bose's are usually overpriced and overrated.
