I think a lot of people would chip in $$ to make it go faster, I agree it is slow

not that i'm not VERY thankful to those who pay and put in work.

Maybe it just seems slow to bots because they can process a zillion calculations per second?

I have more than half of the money I wanted to have before I bought my first house, and it's all because of poker and learning to play from FTR and practice... so i'd love to donate.

can xianti or someone give info on production/maintaining/monthly costs?

People who think FTR needs your donations make me lol.

From what I understand, xianti hates the current host but Tyson and/or Eric put it under contract.

lol at donating money to a website that was designed (and from all objective estimates, successfully) to make lots of money

i mean, i love FTR dont get me wrong, it's just funny

It is slow though. Slowest site I frequent. i know it's not FTR's fault, but it is an extension of FTR

if the site really is that slow (i never noticed it too much, although now that it's been brought up, it does load slow), then the admins are probably losing a lot more money in missed affiliate conversion than what they are paying to whoever hosts the site.

this is just a thought, which is probably wrong, but maybe they went with a cheaper server or provider or whatever when ftr was much smaller, and didnt anticipate it being as big as it is now?

We may still have the same host since those earlier days when I "hated" them (for a period of much-too-frequent downtimes, which was eventually addressed), but we have a different hardware setup and better support from them these days.

I don't know if the slowness can be remedied with a change in host or further hardware upgrades. The fact that such a great number of our pages are database-driven, and that being true with the most popular of our site's pages, has a lot to do with it.

I'm no expert when it comes to these things, so I don't know what else to say. I don't like it either, but have learned to accept it.
  23. #23
We are running two dedicated servers - one html and one database. The hosting costs us about $650/month - but I don't think it's hardware related.

The forum has been running slower ever since our redesign and upgrades... we'll look into streamlining the forum, improving the hardware, and looking into our host...

I have one tab here open and one at 2p2 open. I read 2p2 threads during the loading time of the FTR ones.

We had a technician tweak some Apache settings to provide more resources towards requests - are you guys noticing any faster load times?
  28. #28
I vote for slow, it is my last page to load out of my 4 homes 99.9%.

what kind of database are you running on? Not all DB's are equal and DB response time can be the single point of slowness (is that really a word? lol) for a lot of systems.

We're running on MySQL, not sure what version.

This upcoming Sunday, we're upgrading the memory on both the database and Apache servers so hopefully we see some improvements then.

Just don't go to a new style of forum like 2p2 and another forum I frequent, where you can only see 10-15 posts "per page." I hate that. I love how on FTR you can see 70 posts without having to click anything, keep it that way please.

if all you guys have is 1 apache server and 1 mysql server i think you may need to start adding more servers and/or clusters to handle the traffic.

Is it just me, or does it seem faster than before?

Not blazing fast, but at least close to what you'd expect from most websites.

    lol.

bode already covered it, but still, lol.

Even when i lurk though it is annoying because you pretty much have to login if you want to read through any sort of a long thread.
