I don't know what you expect him to say when the masked lady says "You love her, I see it." The point is that it's obvious to observers well versed in how old knights act around young girls they're in to. And it was pointed out in season 1 when old golden domer said something to the same effect.
He's in a strange land talking to strange people, not exactly the best opportunity to open up and expose your emotions. Plus, he's going to have to interact with Dany for quite some time and it's always good to keep those things out of the realm of the well defined.
And in how they interact with each other, his role was always as a servant, protector and advisor. She was a gift to the Khal in exchange for an army to take Westeros. He was never gonna get a slice of that Khalesi pie. After the Khal falls, you would rather expect him to make his move then continue to serve her in the same fashion and sit on his old man lust as best he can? Ridiculous.
