Whilst 've never come close to actually quitting drinking, I have stopped getting drunk.

I basically have every other Friday night as a night out, and go back a year and this would generally involved me getting drunk, varying from quite drunk to completely hammerred. I've stopped doing this and found that my liife is better in so many ways. More money, no horrific hangovers that last for 2 days, happier home life, more energy over the weekends and more inclination to do stuff. I think this has something to do with not having my old job which made me unhappy, so now having less of a desire to get fucked on a Friday night as I no longer search for that release from the daily grind.

I've also adjusted my drinking by reducing beer intake and drinking vodka & tonic a lot. Much less calories, and if you have a reasonably high quality vodka, if you do get drunk you have far less of a hangover.
