As far as perceived recoil it really depends on the round and the gun. The more powerful the round and the smaller the gun, the more 'kickback'. Revolvers, all else being equal, will also kick harder than autos because part of the energy is used to cycle the action in the latter.
Accuracy wise it is much harder to shoot a handgun accurately than what you see in movies and video games. And that's at a range under basically ideal situations. I don't have the stats on hand but if you look at % hit in police shooting situations the numbers are scary (i.e. high miss %) even at close range with ostensibly well trained shooters.
