I think there are much better options for a carry gun than a 1911 to be quite honest. For example, a mid-sized glock is smaller, lighter, cheaper, more reliable, and holds about double the rounds. On the other end of my loosely defined spectrum, you have guns like the Kahr PM9 or old school S&W J-frame that are both very small and concealable yet use respectable calibers.
