stupid question sorry but in the movies it looks easy as hell. I take it there's a lot more kickback etc?
As far as perceived recoil it really depends on the round and the gun. The more powerful the round and the smaller the gun, the more 'kickback'. Revolvers, all else being equal, will also kick harder than autos because part of the energy is used to cycle the action in the latter.

Accuracy wise it is much harder to shoot a handgun accurately than what you see in movies and video games. And that's at a range under basically ideal situations. I don't have the stats on hand but if you look at % hit in police shooting situations the numbers are scary (i.e. high miss %) even at close range with ostensibly well trained shooters.

Second trip to the range. Now that I understand how the pistol reacts I've been able to start to bring my groupings in. Obviously still have a problem with steady trigger pulls but I'm sure will come down as I get more familiar with the firearm.

    From 10 yards (9.14 meters)

Some of the lower ones are actually high shots when I was going back and forth between two center mass shots and one head shot.

    I like balls.

    Definitely this.

Even in the calmest range conditions you're hands and body will naturally flinch, twitch, twist, etc. right before the shot since you know there is about to be a loud explosion going on between your hands and less than arms length away from your body/face. It's hard to control and even people who have shot their entire lives still struggle keeping the sights on target during the trigger break.

Factor in adrenaline, nerves, and other stimuli in a lethal force situation and you're going to be popping rounds all over the goddamn place.
