    Default hayfever sufferers?

It's springtime! Also means I start waking up unable to breathe, with itchy eyes, runny nose, itchy throat...

been taking Ceterizine tablets (Zyrtec), and although my nose continues to run like the fucking Niagara Falls the rest of the symptoms at least relatively subdued. The only problem I've had (funnily, this never happened to me in previous years when I took these meds) is that they make me noticeably drowsy.

you guys have experience with other drugs or alternatives? From past experience, Claritin does nothing for me.

Try Xyzal, or whatever brands you have available with levocetirizin as the active ingredient. I believe they're the only antihistamines approved for pilots and at least for me they don't make me drowsy, but work just fine.

Hmm interesting. Probably worth a try 'cause it figures to be similar to what I'm taking now, seeing that the two compounds are enatiomers.

I get uber bad allergies in april/may/june. I think it's the snow mould mostly, hayfever later. I basically want to crawl in a hole and sleep for 14 hours a day and still be tired. Nasal congestion, mucus, tiredness and itchy eyes.

Claratin hasn't ever really don't much for me either. I am currently taking some 12hr allergy pills now (Allegra) and it seems to help a bit. One year I had it so bad I went to the doctor and got a prescription nasal spray (Nasonex) and it fixed me right up. Was some expensive shit though.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

I need to take both an inhaler (Salbuterol) and a nasal spray (Fluticazone). This is the first year I am going to try avoiding the pharmaceutical nasal spray and trying a neti pot. Maybe it'll be better for me in the long run. Anyone ever try one?

Put it this way, I have a strong birch allergy (9 on a scale of 1-10, 10=potentially life-threatening) and it developed into allergic asthma some years ago. I've tried every prescription antihistamin available here, I take nasonex and other nasal sprays, eye drops and 2 asthma medications. Xyzal works fine for me. May-June is hell for me.

Ah sounds relevant to me 'cause the pollen reports in my region are reporting extremely high birch pollen levels.

Just started this week for me, and it's all red and sore under my nose already. I was waiting for the underground last night coming home after a party and I sneezed at least 15 times in a row. Fun times.

I've tried neti pots with all kinds of solutions and salts. Some people swear by it, I didn't find it that useful. Maybe if I had done it regularly for a while but, well, I don't like it.

At the bar drinking whisky with an "e"
Jyms, along with neti pots include some natural antihistamines. Coffee is a great one, but you'll end up drinking like a pot a day.

Eug, zyrtec is supposed tp be 24hr yeah? Have you tried taking it at night?

Wow, I have to cut down to 1 pot a day. Last time I tried that I kept getting headaches and had to sleep about 8 hrs a night.

I do take ephedrine HCL as well, it has helped with my breathing in the past but not like the old Mahuang (ephedra) used to.

dthorne uses a neti pot and loves it

Claratin doesn't do anything for me either. I tried Desloratadine and it's better than Loratadine but not great. Cetirizine is by far the best I've tried.

I'm on anti histimines almost 24/7 between late February and July

I've felt like death for 2 days now. Phlegmy, always tired (even when sleeping for 12hrs a day), watery eyes.

Guess it's time to find new drugs

Not a problem yet for me. 10,000mg's Vitamin C, 20mg's Ephedrine HCL and a neti pot is all I have used daily to date. Haven't touched a prescription/pharmaceutical yet. This includes spending a ton of time with the G/F at her house and she has a cat which usually would get to my eyes. I have had the odd feeling of something in my eye and getting itchy, but I should be losing it right about now.

    Neti pots are super-duper.

If you don't use one, you might not be the person you can be.

Claritin usually works for me, but this Neti Pot does sound good. I assume it's OTC?

Fun Fact: Claritin at 10mg sucks and doesn't do shit for most people because they lowered the dose enough that the FDA would approve it with a "non-drowsy" label, even if it sucks.
