I used to love him b/c he epitomizes how most of us feel after getting knocked out of a tournament. However, I have come to realize he is really good against amateurs and quite poor against the pros.
The problem isn't that Helmuth can't play with the best. He is one of them and he clearly can, provided he doesn't let anyone get under his skin. When people tilt him - as they have discovered is very easy to do - he plays horribly. He makes excrutiatingly bad plays and bluffs, horrid calls and raises. So they think, "Oh, I'm playing with Phil. I guess I should help tilt him." And viola! Poker After Dark!
