Actually, I've been homer on the internets forever. On the Eye Are See though, people will hax you for nicks. So I use homer- to avoid that problem. I met some card players (not poker, that other nerd game with cards) from IRC in real life and they called me homerdash. It's stuck since then.

I've used my name for almost ten years now. I used to play this online wrestling game back in the day, and my character was a heel who had the moniker of "Fortune 500." This was in my very early days of internet access, and all my online friends started calling me Fortune, or Forch. When it was time to play poker online, I said "Damn... that actually makes a really good poker name, too..."

This is something I have thought of asking as well.

My story is this. When I was an exchange student in germany my spanish friends started calling us Finns, especially me, penguins because everybody knows how cold it is in Finland and how the land is filled with penguins We were all all talking about "our pet penguins" and stuff and giving each other penguin related stuff, I got a penguin shaped lighter for instance.

Then 1 year after I came from Germany I started playing poker and I was really trying to come up with a c00l name. One morning I was watching a WPT video and I saw Paul "eskimo" Clark playing and there was it! My nick name was to be Pingviini which is penguin in finnish. I just connected eskimo and the penguin stories together.

SpookMeister - because I once needed to come up with a new name for myself in a FPS that I was into (AmericasArmy). My teamates were always talking about how playing against me was like playing with a ghost... they never knew where I'd be coming from and I scared the crap out of them all the time. Well, there was already someone who went by Ghost(something or another) so I went with Spook.

Spook (and variations of same) are fairly common on-line. So I ended up adding a Meister to it. I still get the occasional "already in use" but it works more often than not.

I used to be in the advertising business and a company asked me to come up with a name for their high-speed internet service. Started searching for short and sweet available dot com domain names while thinking about speed a la Star Trek and, voila, up popped "Warpe". The client didn't buy the name but I liked it so much I bought the domain and started using it as an online handle. I eventually let the domain lapse and it's now used by a tech company called Warp Enterprise (Trekkies are everywhere - but then they're tech geeks). It's probably not the greatest poker handle going but whatever...mebbe Winnipeg Slim?
Actually, Winnipeg is in the Red River Valley (yes, that Red River Valley) and my real name is Roy, so p'haps Red River Roy. Wadda ya think?
