Same here. I think it was google though in the end. I was researching poker strategies using many search engines and it must have been google which led me to FTR. It turned out alright for me :P

It was so long ago i can hardly remember.

it was either through 21ace.com or google.

I can't remember if it was 21ace.com first then FTR or the other way around...

From Google too, it's also one of the very few sites not blocked from work. I'm not sure why maybe it's because there nothing directly relates it to poker "flopturnriver".

[b]Whatever it is you guys should make sure this doesn't change as it gives you a distint adv over other sites!

I was on google trying to find out whether it was correct or not to call a bet when you have a flush draw, and I landed on one of Tyson's essays, I think the pot odds one.

As you can see, I was as green as they come when I landed on FTR. I had never heard the phrase "pot odds" before. I had just put $50 into party poker a few days before and I was playing the 0.50/1.00 limit tables, just going on "instinct". I had no clue about any poker theory whatsoever, but I knew some theory must have existed and I wanted to learn about it. FTR basically taught me everything I know.

Basically same here. All I knew was what I learned from watching the world series of poker, rounders, and the world poker tour.

Pretty similar for me. Back just after I begun playing limit on Pacific (which is all they had back then), I was searching on google for the odds of one hand beating another hand or something and ran across Tyson's essays on pot odds and outs and all that stuff and was blown away. I was completely clueless about that type of stuff as well. I also learned that there are some starting hands that you may want to fold. ... The tempting Q2o may not actually be the monster it appears to be.

FTR also talked me into switching to NL with its limit vs. NL essay.

I didn't even realize they had a message board until a long time later, though.

I got here through google, I was trying to learn poker strategies for my home games because I figured an edge would make some money for me... That and I thought there was more to the game than I was taught, for instance the poker sage at our home games: "You shouldn't have folded your A6os because the ace will bail you out of trouble most of the time."

Hello all, I only found this place a couple of days ago. Very impressed so far.

I found it from a link on a site that I found on a link from another forum.

The first forum was thehendonmob.com but the one from that is quite funny.

    Check out 72off.cjb.net {URL edited so it's not a hot link - Xianti}

Some very sound advice can be found here. 8-)

I only ask because I see a similar pattern here. Your very first post here is promoting that site... same thing PokerEye did.

And both of your posts originate from a UK IP address.

I found it through www.lowlimitholdem.com, which I thought was the best poker site yet (I'd only been looking into strategy for a week though) and then FTR blew me away. I didn't even realize there were NL games online at the time. I thought it was all limit and was disappointed I couldn't be as cool as Matt Damon.

Also, I love bumped threads that Rippy posted in at some point. Because his posts contain nothing but people reply to whatever he originally said. So it looks like he's the site's R2D2 or Kenny.

    SUPEROLDTHREADBUMPAMENTS lol

Funny story how I found this site: I wrote an email to John Vorhaus after reading one of his Killer Poker books, asking if he'd ever considered being a mentor, as I really enjoyed his books and learned a lot from what he wrote.

He dropped me a letter back saying that he couldn't mentor anyone, but thanks for asking, and I should check out 2+2 or Flopturnriver.com

yes, you guys got love from John Vorhaus.

and I still haven't found a damn mentor. I joined the day he sent me that e-mail because 2+2 forum boards give me aneurisms, and siezures, and bloody feces.

I was a regular poster on Pokertips.org which was mainly a site of micro and low limit grinders. When I asked for a good HH converter they referred me to FTR and I have never posted on Pokertips again.
