the thing is, it it very unlikely that royce can win if it comes down to a decision
he also isn't capable of knocking hughes out
essentially the only way he can win is by submission

on the other hand, hughes isn't capable of submitting royce
also it is very unlikely that he will knock royce out
hughes can win by decision, doctor's stoppage, or corner stoppage

I am afraid this is going to be a boring fight
with hughes in royce's guard on the ground for 5 rounds

they shouldve made it one 15 min round, instead of three 5 minute ones, woudlve made it much more interesting.

If Royce fights slow and methodical while on his back hes going to get worked over. He has to attack Hughes into a mkaing a mistake otherwise Royce will just be eating forearms for 15 minutes.

I dont give Royce much of a chance, but comeon, hes a Gracie, I want to see him win. Maybe he will pull a reverse omoplata into a crucifix and give Hughes a kiss, ala Penn.

Rickson vs Sak in K1 (HOPEFULLY) would be fuckin sick.

I think royce will win this fight. When is the fight btw? I thought they were going to have it right after UFC 57 but they didnt.

I think Royce's only chance to win is a big blunder by hughes.

Hughes is not some random striker that the Gracies own, He is one of the best MMA grapplers in the UFC.

Royce is better on the ground, but Hughes has him dominated in every other area.

This fight ends in a decision for hughes 80% of the time and 10% in a Gracie submission. leaving a 10% random WTF factor

At any rate, not worth the PPV charge.

FWIW, I don't necessarily think Gracie would take this fight if he didn't think he could win, but also reaslize he is receiving a reported 1.2 million for the fight, the most in MMA history.

I am surprised the lines aren't closer to +400 Gracie
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I dont think the fight wil stay standing for any amount of time so Hughes' "domination" standing probably wont be much of a factor. Hughes hasnt KOd a guy by punches in the UFC and he prefers to go for the takedown anyways. So this fight WILL be on the ground.

Hughes will probably GnP his way to descision. His wrestling is that much better than Royces, and after a takedown he just needs to throw some elbows, maybe sit there for a while, get stood back up becuase a bunch of drunk idiots are booing, rinse and repeat his way to the descision.

Make it no time limits and no ref standups and I give Gracie a win by odd wristlock in an hour long match.

Has anyone watched the Sakuraba vs Gracie fight?
Royce got his femur broken from Saku kicking it repeatedly, but he continued to fight for a while before he had them throw the towel in
I have nothing but respect for Royce, the UFC truly is the house that Royce built and nothing would please me more than seeing Hughes getting choked out

however, I can't take anything away from Hughes, he is a consummate competitor and has proved time and time again why that belt belongs around his waist
he trains with one of the best camps in the world and his work ethic is phenomenal

I want Gracie to win but I think I will be betting on Hughes when the 27th rolls around
betting on Gracie is a horrible idea and I advise everyone against it

working myself up to FTR fullhouse status while not giving 1 solid piece of advice
i don't have an opinion on the fight, but I did just go see my little bro compete in his first UFC amateur fight at the Tacoma Dome last week - I'll tell you what - he looked like the biggest rookie there. Even the amateurs at the UFC are really good fighters - a lot of them are in spectacular shape and I watched some brutal fights...My brother lost, but he didn't get too hurt luckily - He made it to the 2nd round and almost submitted the guy through a triangle lock (i'm not sure what that meant, but my bro was excited about it) - One thing kinda strange is that I have felt a lot tougher the past few weeks just because i've now got a brother who figths in the UFC Sorry for the non-helpful response - I just couldn't pass on the opportunity to brag about my bro

I originally heard it as being five 5-minute rounds -- that would of been hot.

It's not the most in MMA history. Maybe UFC history, but there's quite a few guys from PrideFC, even non-title holders like Yoshida, that regularly make $2 million or more a fight.

    Matt by ref stoppage.

Edit: There's a vid of the weigh-ins from last night at http://www.subfighter.com/ftopic-336...derasc-15.html

The point remains that I would totally be willing to get my ass kicked for 1.2 million.

Fuck, I'll fight Matt Hughes for 20 grand

there's a lot more than just money or a belt on the line
that is why I am watching this fight, because it is historic

Another historic ass kicking for Royce, you mean

But yeah I totally agree, and if it wasn't for that fact and who Royce Gracie is/was/whatever, then nobody would care

I like Hughes but I hope Gracie kicks his ass for all the shit talk that has came from Hughes camp.

People are severely underestimating Gracies chance of winning.

    Fight #9
    Royce Gracie vs. Matt Hughes

    R1
Both fighters look very composed as the first period starts. After a brief clinch against the cage, Hughes scores a takedown directy into side control. Hughes looking for a Kimura. Gracie's arm is being bet back horribly. Royce escapes but Hughes gets on his back with both hooks in. The wrestler then pounds away at Royce's head until referee "Big" John McCarthy stops the bout at 4:39 of the first round. Complete domination by the champion.

    PWNT

    Edit: However, 4:39 = 279 seconds; $1.1 million/279 seconds = $3942.65/second for the fight. Royce is a hustla.

This fight was stopped way too early...
  22. #22
He was unable to defend himself so I think the stoppage was fine. I think VQ hit it on the button. 5 minute rounds do not play well into Royces game plan.

its not like it mattered in this fight.

I didnt pay for the PPV, watched it on youtube instead, but the fights were good regardless of how fast they were. There were some awesome subs. Listers guard work was beautiful.

It was a fucking clinic. I think it might have been my favorite fight.
