Yeah, it can lower your serum sodium to dangerously low levels. Not good.
I am admittedly not well read on the subject, but I am unaware of any findings that suggest caffeine consumption negatively affects the heart. I know there is evidence that caffeine consumption is associated with increases in several cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as blood pressure, but that is not what you're saying.
There was a recent study saying that drinking coffee is good for you due to its anti-oxidants from the bean. They did not find protective effects with soda, however. Therefore if you want caffeine, the best way is tea/coffee.
