I'm definately not formally educated in the subject, but I'm just going on what I know. I didn't mean weaight lifting is pointless. But from the sounds of it, you guys are saying all it takes is power lifting and building some muscle, then the rest takes care of itself. I think that's got to be completely wrong.

Yes muscle builds up metabolism but that's not going to do everything. To get rid of fat you need to use energy, because that's what fat is, stored energy. Power lifting does take enery obviously, but it doesn't use as much as a cardio excercise would. Power lifting you're working until the particular muscle you're focussing on is exhausted, not your energy levels.

Whatever the case, someone needs to page Trainer, he knows his shit and can set us straight.
