Default I can't get into IRC anymore.

This is the message that I get when I try to join.

    [17:49] *** Creating connection "flopturnriver"
    [17:49] *** -irc.quakenet.org- *** Looking up your hostname
    [17:49] *** -irc.quakenet.org- *** Checking Ident
    [17:49] *** -irc.quakenet.org- *** Found your hostname
[17:49] *** :sw.de.quakenet.org 465 Les_Worm :As a security countermeasure, all clients connecting from *@*.comcast.net are now required to give a valid ident response on connect. If you use mIRC, open mIRC options, select Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd server. You may also need to unblock external/internet port 113 in your software or hardware firewall and/or forward it..
    [17:49] *** Error: Closing Link: Les_Worm by sw.de.quakenet.org (G-lined)

What do I need to do to get back in? I also don't use mIRC so what they tell me doesn't help.

I cannot get on either and I cannot fix it. Thats the original problem why I did not want to go to qaukenet. Gamesnet seemed to be fixed but I will put up a vote for IRC and majority will put where the IRC server/channel is at.

Only thing I can say les is do what it says and if you still cant get on then your sol like me

Yeah, this pretty much sucks. Now I don't even get a message. When I try to connect it doesn't even work. I guess no IRC for me. If anyone knows how to fix this then let me know.

Do you people use firewalls? If you can manually open port 113 (AUTH) then do it. This will allow you to run a ident daemon which should be enough to let you into irc.

Edit: Yeah I just realized the original message told you to do so Anyway if you don't know how to do it reply in here and maybe we can help you out.

Your hardware router probably blocks the attempts in which case you'd have to forward port 113. I guess you have a web interface for your router? Go there and see if you can forward port 113 to your computer's local ip adress

Look for something called "port forwarding"

also, find out your compters local ip by doing this:

windows -> run -> type in: cmd to get a command prompt, in here you type
    ipconfig

your ip adress is probably something like 192.168.0.15

I have the same problem. I am running McAffee Personal firewall. I can't find anything about "port forwarding"
    I suck.

If you don't have a hardware router and your computer connects directly to the internet you won't have to forward. All you have to do is make sure port 113 is open. Weird how everyone got this problem all of a sudden. Wonder what QNET is tightening up the security for?

Ok i just got connected this is what i did..

    Tools > options > firewall > protocol = socks 4

Port = 113 the rest is blank

then go to Identd > check Enable Identd server
make it port 113 system being UNIX

then I have all 3 check marked thereafter

then to Servers > click edit and change the port to 6668.

This is the changes I made to get connected.

I heard of stuff where a virus or whatever installs a hidden IRC client and causes your computer to constantly stay connected to IRC and stay in a specific channel. Then the hacker can join the channel and enter commands to all the computers in the channel to cause a Denial of Service attack or something.

As a security countermeasure, all clients connecting from *@*.cox.net are now required to give a valid ident response on connect. If you use mIRC, open mIRC options, select Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd server. You may also need to unblock external/internet port 113 in your software or hardware firewall and/or forward it..
    Still not working....

I'm back into IRC! I had to forward port 113 and since I didn't know how to do that hydroseeds was able to help me out. Everything works good again!

Downloaded HydraIRC It works great, and its free! I reccommend it to anyone having problems with mirc.
