Default I just quit my job.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Hmmm. Around here you just need to have all your fingers and like to work evenings. Beats Subway, 'cept maybe for the free food.

Yah, I heard you have to attend some sort of dealing school where you get a qualification, which costs a lot of money to attend.

Hmmm. That sucks. Here they train you, but then the casinos are government run (or run by Indian bands...er...First Nations peoples).

Really, I have a pretty extensive resume, with a background in nuclear engineering and analytical chemistry. I think once I go broke, I can probably just get another job.

your a very good player with great insights, and obviously a winning player.. good luck.

one tip i have, if ur relying on poker profits to get by.. sometimes its best to take a day off than have a day playing when alls going bad and your down in the dumps, dont play in this bad mind-set because you feel you have to, to earn your wage... just take some time out and chill

Just make sure you account for independent health insurance, eyecare, dental etc now. Those all cost a good amount. Unless you're from England, then just eyecare and health.

Brits get free dental? Guess that explains it. You get what you pay for.

I think it is actually highly unlikely that I will go broke... So far I think only Jeff disagrees.

But, I think if you don't take into account the possibility of going broke, you are being unrealistic. Really all great poker pros have gone broke at some point, and I am not so great.

I think if you are leaving even a remote possibility that you would actually go broke, you are not being very smart about this. In the days before the internet and multitabling and before as much information was around about the variance of poker, of course a lot of pros went broke. A lot of them are also very poor money managers. Personally, I would not even consider going pro if I didn't have at least a 1000BB bankroll(for a limit player) and a years worth of living expense(figured from a detailed budget leaning on the conservative side for unexpected expenses) money outside my bankroll. Obviously those are pretty arbitrary numbers, but it's pretty easy to see that you could easily get yourself into trouble if you have say a 500 BB bankroll and 1 month of living expenses saved

I am closer to 1000BBs and 3 months... A year was my goal, but due to some personal circumstances, I felt it was in my best interest to give it a shot. Thank you for your concern, however.
