I just recorded with two funk legends
I'm soaring right now. I recorded today and yesterday with Fred Wesley and Bernie Worrell, for an upcoming CD by a band called Chow Nasty. Fred Wesley is a trombone funk and jazz legend, he recorded on most of James Brown's records, and has played/recorded with George Clinton, Parliament Funkadadelic, Maceo Parker, Prince and many many more. Bernie Worrell was the music director/keyboardist of Parliament Funkadelic, and also music director/keyboard with the Talking Heads during their famous 80s records. He is a member of the Rock and Roll hall of fame .
We just spent the last two days in a famous studio in SF called "Different Fur" recording the horn parts to this record. What a treat it was! The horn section was all trombones- 5 all together. The record is a mix of modern electro and hip-hop grooves and old school funk horns. We just made the shit up as we went, the horn parts I mean. Fred and Bernie providing most of the ideas, but I had a couple of ideas that got on there as well. A friend of mine is in this band, and called me to do these sessions- It was so damn cool, I cant even tell you. I'll try and post a link to the record when it comes out, which is probably in late spring/early summer. GG me!
