Honestly, I'm not too worried about what kind of sentences child abusers get because even the lightest charges are usually virtual death sentences. Anybody convicted of child molestation will get viciously beaten and raped in prison, and if they're not in prison, they're pseudo-exiles
The problem is that this law literally broad brushes all forms of sexual misconduct and puts it solely at the discretion of the prosecutor. She literally got prosecuted for a crime she didn't commit. This would be like if you were on a jury, and you convicted somebody of small-time money laundering, yet were never told that the state statute requires mandatory life sentencing.
I guarantee the lobbyists for the bill were people who make money off of incarceration. That's actually a GINORMOUS problem in our country, yet almost nobody acknowledges it, even the libruls. If you want marijuana legal or prisons to not be overrun with minorities, eliminate extreme profit incentives in the justice industry
I recall a case within the last six months or so where like a 16 year old latin kid got like 25 years for graffiti. This shit is evil
