internet speed connection

Hi all,

Does anybody played online with normal internet speed via phone lines. I actually have High speed internet at home but I have the opportunity to have Free internet at basic speed.

My question is : is it still playable at this speed or High speed internet is a must ?

I've played on regular dial up just fine. You should have no problem, but there are technical difficulties sometimes.

I can't realy answer your question directly... but for me personaly, Dial-up is not an option. I spend way too much time doing things on the net to be bottlenecked by those speeds.

I believe it would be playable (but noticably slower). Software updates, which happen fairly often, would probably triple in duration. And doing multiple tables at once would probably be too slow.

In that regards I agree whole heartedly. If you do alot of other things while you play then stay away from dial up.

I currently have dial-up (because hi-speed is not avialable in my area). I am able to 3/4 table at a time. There are slight delays, and sometimes it auto-folds my hand, but it is still playable.

I would seriously reconsider giving up your hi-speed access though. I used to have hi-speed, it is painful using the internet with just dial-up.

Soupie has played with dial up quite a bit.

I have only played with cable connection and sometimes the damn thing will reboot on me....

Yeah, I believe soupie, one of the if not THE best tourney player on FTR, plays with 56k connection.

I suppose it will be noticeably slower and will take some getting used to, and being disconnected during a hand would suck, but I suppose it's do-able.

Used to he now has wireless. speed wise i am not sure...

It doesn't take a lot of bandwidth to communicate between the poker client and server--56k is plenty. I've multi-tabled on dialup without a problem.
I suggest you turn off all automatic software and virus updates though. You don't want your computer to suddenly start downloading large files in the middle of a poker hand.

Yeah, poker software = low bandwidth programs. As long as you have a decent computer, these poker programs can easily run. Personal opinion, 56k is a pain in the ass, I would stay away from it if you can pay for your broadban connection. Make up the difference by winning in poker hope the advice helped, take care.
