I don't know. The vast majority of those games I havn't watched and were before I was born. I don't care much.

If I had to give you a generic response, it could possibly be some or all of these things, among others, and in no particular order:

    - variance, SEC running hot and OSU running cold so to speak
    - superior SEC football teams
    - big 10 schedule ending sooner (longer layoff between games)
    - poor weather making it more difficult to practice in before-mentioned long layoff
    - i dont know & i dont care, if OSU beats the annual national media darling LSU tigers, all will be forgiven (in my eyes at least)

It's partly because if OSU plays an SEC team, it's usually because they're not having that great of a year (otherwise they'd be in the Rose Bowl). But even leaving that aside, 8 is such a small sample size anyway. What you're doing is the same as looking through your PT database and saying "oh look, I've lost the most money with 66 so it must be a shitty hand" when in fact that's just the hand you've run the worst with. Cherry-picked statistics don't prove anything, other Big Ten teams are worse programs overall but they have done just fine vs. the SEC.

Why do you think OSU has a higher computer ranking than Georgia, Oklahoma and USC?

omfg get off the variance trip you guys are fucking killing me.

Football is not a longterm game, you get one fucking chance a year, you cannot reload and do it again. I'm tired of "variance" as an excuse.

Out of all of this the biggest fucking disaster is Illinois somehow getting in a BCS game, that to me, is disgusting.

OK...you can pretend that the best team always wins if that makes you happy, but if you don't believe there's variance in sports I sort of wonder how you wrap your mind around what happened this season

What if OSU gets blow the fuck out this year (which I don't think will happen b/c LSU is grossly overrated too)???

Do we keep allowing them back into the Champ. game for going 10-1 in a deteriorating conference and a weaker than hell out of conference schedule? Does the system adjust? When do we throw "numbers" out of the picture and allow ourselves to use common sense.

I like USC vs OU the more I think about it.

Not at all, it only happened this year because they backdoored it on the last weekend of a season with no dominant teams. Most years a 10-1 team in a weak Big 10 that played cupcakes out of conference won't come anywhere near the championship game.

If common sense means ignore an entire season's worth of games and focus only on one or two games then I'll stick with the numbers. I hate OSU but I hate the mythology of the SEC even more so I'll be rooting for OSU.

lol yeah because variance is not possible the team that won the game would have won it 100% of the time no matter what.

and Illnois is good this year quit bashing them because they arent a big time program. illinois usc will be a good game.

if there is a team that doesnt belong its hawaii, they havent played anyone all year. yeah theyre undefeated and some will say they should be in a the national championship game because of that but if you want to have an opportunity to do that you need to actually schedule some good opponets. and dont tell me they cant get good opponets to come out and play in Hawaii... i heard something about wisconsin schedules a game there every 4 years so that each player gets a vacation kind of thing to hawaii once in there career.

no one in the nation early on in the year that has a chance to be national championship wants to take 65 20 year-olds to play in Hawaii against a very potent football team.

That would be suicide or at the very least, attempted suicide, which funny enough, is the only crime which is punishable when attempted but not when successful.

    lol tangents/

Also, Illinois is a solid football team, better than Mizzou on a neutral field? obviously not, that's why the system is flawed.

they schedule a few years ahead dont they?? so its not like they wouldnt play hawaii because they didnt want to schedule them before this year. other teams play big non conference games why not go play hawaii. they could get games if they wanted to.

You can't really say that Illinois is obviously worse that Missouri. I mean yeah, Missouri beat Illinois at Illinois the first game of the season by 6 points but does that make them "obviously" the best team. No, of course not.

The reason the system is flawed is because Missouri deserves the BCS berth over Illinois and Kansas since they beat both of those teams during the regular season, not because they are "obviously" better than either of those teams (which I believe that Missouri is the best team of those three but that doesn't really matter). Missouri getting in over Kansas is really terrible.
