    Default mac vs. pc

i for one have been a pc user my whole life, and am sick and fucking tired of mac users who think they are fucking special because they spent more than > 2x as much money on a mac. its a very similar annoyance i have with people who think they are saving the world by buying organic foods and driving hybrid cars.

it seems like most of the people on ftr use pc's, so im not sure how good of a discussion we can get going, but try anyways!

I love OS X, specially Leopard, but I think mactards are stupid.

I still take a mac anyday over a pc, even though vista is starting to actually work the way I want it to lately

I have been using a mac for the past 2 years and my new poker set up is a PC. I was quikly reminded why I hate fucking PCs. Allready getting error messages. Macs are just so much simpler. Its kind of hard to explain but once you get adjusted to Macs I think they are a world apart from PCs.

We hate similar things. Macs are overpriced imo, and everyone has one in college. Apple products do look very clean though.

it was kind of more of south park reference. for those who havent seen it, they start buying hybrid cars, and they create 'smug' in the air, because they are so full of themselves. you would have to see it. http://allsp.com/l.php?id=e141

this is my main problem. mac's are widely accepted as better for graphic design, i think music, and stuff like that. i want to punch people who buy them just for surfing the net and writing papers and think they are special (i.e. almost every college kid who has one).

if you were buying s comp to strictly email and surf why wouldn't it be a mac? faster boot up, easy to use, etc. Sure it's expensive but strictly for use purposes mac is exactly what a lot of people want/need.

I see. So your actual problem is not with the Mac, but with the "people who use the mac and think they rule the world because of this".

Mac have good uses, but are also well-suited for general computing. People who have no idea what to do with a computer are more likely to choose one based on ad influence. And here Mac is owning pc's (as in, the general term pc) as of late.
But they still trail massively in market share.

Now, if somebody has extra cash to spend, and wants to splurge on an extra expensive 'puter "because it will make them special", by all means they should go ahead. I would not care in the slightest. I rather pity them for having low self esteem if that would be the only reason they would buy something material.

And, fwiw, the Macbook is marketed exactly towards the "I just want to chat and surf" market segment.

I completely agree. From what I hear macs do have great software, that doesn't have a steep learning curve, for video editing or making music. Macs like to broadcast the image that they are innovators, although they continue to try to imitate a pc. They switched to using intels and now you can run Windows on them., both of which pcs have been using for years. Macs are hard to upgrade and don't run games very well. Also there is much more software available for a pc than a mac. Macs are trendy though.

I was a pc user forever and bought a mac about a year ago and would never buy a pc again. But then again I am a complete douche. JK. But my pc was so goddamn slow and my macbook is not. I had to wipe my hard drive on my pc cuz it was so fucked up. Im pretty sure there are plenty of mac users who are douches and plenty of pc users who are douches.

There are and will always be douchebags in every area, each exhibiting a certain and different form of douchebaggery.
Worrying about this is an excersice in futility imo.

My two best friends in high school were Mac douches. So naturally I never bought one because I hate that Mac douche attitude too. I bought one a few years ago. Loved it. But I couldn't play a variety of poker sites on it. Then I bought a PC. I fucking hate these things. Honestly. I'm buying a Mac again for my next computer and not going back.

Incidently, the time I bought my new PC was like the exact time Macs became super compatible with running PC software. What a tool.
