Just hit open beta today:

MWO: Game

I'm wondering if there are any fans of the battletech series here on FTR. I've been waiting for a new MW game to come out for something like 10 years, and am reasonably pleased to see this one'll be free to play -- notwithstanding the fact that there'll obviously be a real money store to buy shit and "pay to win" which is somewhat annoying.

It's looking pretty sweet, and I personally think it'll be nice to have a casual, side-show kind of game to play when bored that won't interfere with my life like some games might (Diablo III, Guildwars 2, Darkfall: Unholy Wars etc).

Clans are uber important in this game, premade groups will pretty much roll anything else. Any of you feel like giving this a go, look me up, I'm pretty sure I reserved my pilot's name as Penneywize. Or send me a PM or whatever.

I think I'll pass for now. I have too many games on my plate at the moment. I played a mechwarrior (4?) game way back in the day. Probably 10+ years ago? Wasn't a huge fan.

Yeah Hawken seems really good as well, I'm definitely going to try both and decide which one I enjoy more. From what I understand, Hawken is more fast-paced, having COD-type gameplay, while MWO has a bit more ponderous and strategic feel, a la BF3.

It's all kind of moot now since I found out my current laptop is just too weak to play even MWO. This is a computer that chugged through Diablo 3 and Guild Wars2, albeit on absolute minimum settings and poor performance. Just couldn't get past like 10 FPS on MWO though
