My poker world has changed

About 2 years ago my friends decided to hold a poker game, we played a lot of different things, and I lost a lot of money. Since then, I've been playing poker randomly and then more commonly, then quite often.

Well, I've noticed my skill increase, not only with my cards, but with how I view things.

I bring this up because I am watching the new season of Celebrity Poker Showdown. I watched it last year and admired all the people playing good poker (except Scott Stapp from Creed, he sucked)

This year I am looking at these people and saying to myself, "What are you doing? That's not smart" and I'm saying it a lot. But I'm realizing, the poker isn't different, my play is. What I used to think was smart, I now realize is amateur.

I used to watch World Poker Tour for the entertainment of the all-ins and the excitement of hands (on season 1, they had quad 7s come down on the community, it ruined 1 guys pocket Ks)

Now I watch WPT for tips. It's the same story with WSOP on ESPN. I'm watching these and analyzing what they have, and how much they raise, what position, what the other person did. It's almost studying. I'm not having that feeling with Celebrity Poker Showdown. I try to look at what they are doing, but it makes no sense sometimes.

You can never see how you've grown until you step back and look at it from there. This new season of CPS is when I'm stepping back.

I know what you mean, especially about Stapp, what a moron. But I'll watch CPS for the entertainment, and then study WPT and WSOP games. The final match for CPS is a little better tho cause everyone there had to win their table so...

Sometimes watching the celebrities play poker makes me want to gouge my eyes out! Especially Scott Stapp. I never finished watching the whole thing the first season. Did James Woods wind up winning it? I heard he was a pretty decent player?

A lot of the celebrities they have on CPS are taught how to play Hold'em for their first time just before taping. Phil Gordon gives them a crash course and they are given a handbook they can refer to during the game.

Most of them are horrible. I watch Celebrity Poker Showdown like a comedy.

I never finished watching the whole thing the first season. Did James Woods wind up winning it? I heard he was a pretty decent player?

James Woods didn't even play in the first season. He was on the premiere of this season last week, and was knocked out.

Nicole Sullivan won Season One's championship.

Sometimes you can still learn from their mistakes, phil gordon does a good job of pointing out mistakes and gives the correct play. I can only remember 1 thing that i still remember learning from it, but im sure theres more.
Dave Foley is the man, to bad he isn't using his A material for CPT.

Well, I have a new opinion on Celebrity Poker Showdown.

One of my other hobbies is cooking, and I watch the Food Network a lot. I watch Good Eats cause it has a lot of technical advice. I watch Iron Chef because they are so creative and they give great ideas. and I occationally watch Emeril just for entertainment.

Well, I can put poker into the same categories. Celebrity Poker Showdown is like Emeril. You can't watch it to learn, but it's just fun. You watch WPT for technical advice and to learn.

Once I realized that, I didn't mind watching tonights CPS. It was fun. Michael Ian Black is very funny. (he kept betting his chips + a signed photo of David Copperfield)

On a side note, last week James Woods finished 3rd in CPS, I saw a commercial that James is in the final table of next week's WPT. Good for him. I look forward to seeing how he does.
