My thoughts on what is currently going on

I'd like to establish that everyone was completley wrong over the last week on FTR and no one made a good decision. Everyone was wrong for the needless flame war vs Ripptyde, and the mods were wrong for the over-reaction to that. Xianti was wrong for martial law and everyone, myself included, was wrong for dealing with this in an immature way.

I've only been around here for a short period of time but I think you're all pretty good people. Now that there are obvious huge disagreements over the whole "martial law" situation, I hope that anyone with serious complaints send a private message to Xianti, as I'm sure by his most recent responses, he no longer wants to deal with the flame-bait type posts.

Management of FTR on the other hand need to handle the matters privatley which is now starting to be done, I hope. As you've all seen over the last 1-2 days public Probations/Bannins completley backfire. I hope to see martial law end and perhaps a public serious discussion of recent events in the community, where everyone can comment without insulting each other.

I hope to see the community stop all the hate on both sides in the near future.

That's really not necessary, ProZach. I believe you were trying to speak on my behalf, but I would never say that in those words.

Most especially not to someone that is posting an insightful, respectful and thoughtful commentary.

I allow all opinions on any subject here at FTR. Some people just need to learn how to state their opinions in a civil manner.

Hey Phantaroth, this Martial Law is temporary until we have clear guidelines for our users and mod's. But in the end, we're aiming for a cool, friendly community, that discusses killer poker strategy - and to achieve this we will be stricter overall on our administration of what is posted here. So, warnings, probations, and bannings will not go away (but most likely ease up a bit). We can't please everyone, and we won't attain what we're seeking without pissing off some or many people along the way. In the end, some folks will leave of their own will or ours, and that's ok.

The flame war on Rippy was wrong, Rippy partly brought it on himself in some parts but everyone involved was wrong. How Xianti was immature about it I do not see, I see a lot of other people being extremely immature about it though.

I don’t see why banning matters need to be handled privately, people who get banned should have their post(s) that get them banned be made note of, and they should also be an example to the commune of what will get you banned.

I agree, shit was cool for as long as I have been here but started going to hell recently, I hope the martial law thing will get over as soon as possible and everyone in the commune can get long like we did before.

The forum used to be friendly becuase everyone in it was friendly and respectful to each other. Let a year pass, new people show up, they're less respectful than the older fellows would like and interests collide. Xianti decided to ban people who were being immature and disrespectful in hopes that it would lead to a better community in the future.

No one overreacted to the Rippy thing. You've just gotta take it a face value that it was a long time coming and Rippy's actions were unacceptable.

Martial law was a calculated overreaction becuase anything less simply wouldnt stop the IRC crowd. (Not generalizing that its everyone from IRC, but most of the people being targeted have IRC in common)

The IRC crowd overreacted in the fashion that my generation has come to know and love.

Hopefully a little forsight from everyone will allow us to move past this stage quickly and as peacefully as possible.
