since when is showing with your hands 'O' to the crowd a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty? that makes the no fun league look like a damn circus in comparison.

What hopes? You guys were playing cream puffs early on. That is why you were winning without a defense. All you had to do was outscore the little sisters of the poor. If you had a defense, you would definitely be a difficult team to beat. I would say that you could have been a top 5 team if you had some resemblance of a defense.

Stuff like that happens on a smaller level in non-con games when smaller league schools get paid to play big-6 conference teams. If you beat em you don't get paid.

yea for sure, i dont know how many times you guys ran that same route to caole or w/e his name is and we never covered it, both his 50 yard gains were identical :-/....good game though mane, tyrod taylor is so sick (same with ryan williams when hes healthy) both are hella fun to watch

UW makes a bowl game only 2 years removed from an 0-12 season. WOO HOO!!!

It's against Nebraska who crushed us 56-21 (and it didn't even seem that close) on our own field already this year. FUUUUU.jpg

Yeah, losing the first game this year really sucked because it shot Tyrod's chances of pulling out some miraculous season right in the foot. Luckily, week two showed us that our defense is powered only by ints so we really never had a shot at a NT.

Still, he's a QB the likes of which isn't gonna to be seen around Blacksburg for quite some time.

All I want for now is to see that TT and eventually Williams play on Sundays with some success.

Yeah who do you guys have at QB for next year? I remember vs. Wake you guys started playing a WR there IIRC

Assuming Russell Wilson leaves we have Sean Glennon's younger brother

    ^ Yeah, why not.

Also, we'll probably have some kid named Logan Thomas as QB next year. He was a top atheletic and TE prospect I think.

dude DUCKS are going to shiiiiiit on auburn....yes i know auburn plays in the sec which is like 1230948203 times the better conference than the pac 10...

However the ducks are averaging 50 a game (thats right mother fucking FIFTY)....lJ is fucking unstopabble and going to destroy on sundays....darron thomas is legit as shit and is basically a poor man's Newton...

Basically i see this being close until the 3rd quarter, but then when we hit the 4th (the quarter that oregon has outscored opponents (including top 6 team stanford) 110-7) auburns offense will finally slip up (all it takes is once against oregon) and the ducks will take it.

philly, OU was averaging 43/game until they played LSU in 2003, only scored 14.

ofc comparing Auburn's D to that LSU team is being way too generous

yea rofl at this defense close to being the no 1 D in the country like LSU's was....also lol at comparing a team that had just lost 35-7 on a neutral site vs k state to a team that is undefeated.

I know your point is that a good D can trump a great O...but i dont think thats the case here as Auburn has allowed over 24 points 9 times, the 03 LSU tigers D let in 24 points 1 time and that was in a 55-24 blowout vs arkansas where they scored a lot of their points in garbage time.

basically i stand by the fact that Oregon is going to win

um probably a lot because no championship games are the same. Are you really defending the asinine comparison of this game to the LSU/Oklahoma matchup because thats dumb as shit.

Cue worst bowl game of the season tonight... rematch of a blowout... GBR.

I assume you are talking about the Holiday Bowl. If I didn't care about UW I'd agree. The main thing that we do have going for us is that it's not entirely uncommon for upsets to occur in bowl games when one team is excited to be there and the other team is disappointed to be there.

Also I'm pretty sure I heard that nebraska has lost a couple players over dui's or some other off the field stuff.

I still expect that we'll get our asses handed to us again.

Isn't that a little like saying that that one pig is dirtier than this other pig in the pen?

They should at least receive minimum wage. In all seriousness, I know that most of them have a full ride and shit, but they don't have time while in school to support themselves with a job. Why not just give them a per diem or something? I believe that this would stop a lot of the silliness.
  52. #202
    they get a stipend

at a place like Ohio St. they'll end up receiving more than $250,000 is tuition, board, equipment, stipends, etc... over 4-5 years.

I do not feel bad for them one bit.
  53. #203
I don't feel bad for them either. I'm trying to figure out why they do dumb shit like this. I wasn't aware that any athlete at any school was getting a stipend.
  54. #204
It's been too long since you made minimum wage if you think it would stop you from making 2-3k in an hour.
  55. #205

Very true. But they have everything else handed to them. It will never happen because you have to pay every athlete and then tuition will increase, which tuition is already ridiculous.

I'm torn on the whole ban incident. They sold items that belonged to them. Although, these items were awarded to them for their performance. As a fan, I'm disappointed that they would sell these items because it shows how loyal they really are. But I guess I would be naive if I believed that they are loyal to the team and the school.
  56. #206
the whole 'it belonged to them thing' is a non starter to me - what if the rings were worth 20k? What if they got one for each big ten win? what if the school just gave them checks for the value of the ring?

def agree on the sadness, you have to suspend your disbelief to be a fan and every once in a while it comes crashing down. I assume the same thing happens with church going people.
  57. #207
imo the old white guys make millions of dollars off these neegs, and some of them get hurt and never get to make millions in the NFL, i think its retarded that we punish them for circumventing a broken system, i think we should come up with some base salary (not the obscene number that they get in the nfl or even a fraction of that but still something)....spenda mentioned stipends and the first article i read said that Dwayne jarret (former standout USC receiver) made about 900 a month in stipends....so thats not even 12 g's a year....wow lucky him...

I agree. All I'm talking about is a little bit of spending money for clothes and tattoos. Some of these guys come from nothing. 1k a month with everything else that they have would be fine with me. I think that if they were making a legitimate small monthly stipend and they pulled the shit that these guys pulled, then I would say "come on man".
  60. #210
again, for someone making 1k per month, would they really say no to 2-3k in 1 second selling a ring?

I think it helps to examine "all the other stuff they get". Most of these guys don't want to go to class, and they don't want to live in the dorm. We view these as rewards, but they don't. If there was a "rookie" HS transfer league type option in the NFL college football would completely change. What they get from OSU is a chance to be on a national stage so they can take the next step. that's it. The rest is all hoops they have to jump through. of course they have fun and make friends yadda but all that would happen no matter what. They might love being a former OSU great when they are 40, but they don't care about it now.

I agree in theory that it's a bad/hypocritical system, but in practice I haven't heard a good solution yet. Just paying them lots of money seems like the only option, but it think it would change football dramatically - that football money pays for a lot of other stuff that doesn't make any money. It would be fine at OSU to pay starters say 30-50k and everyone else ~10k ish, but I would assume that would bankrupt a lot of the less successful schools and/or they would pay less and get even worse so you'd have to re-design the sport. I have long been a fan of blowing up the conference system so I'm game but most people don't seem to like that.

    The game is whatever.

But individually his season/career stats are pretty fucking impressive.

The same way I feel Cam Newton is overrated. I say Taylor is just as underrated.

From what I've seen, the only thing holding him back is VT's ungodly shitty OL

Newton's stats blow Taylor's out of the water this year, all the while playing in the SEC while Taylor played in what looks to be the 6th or 7th toughest conference in America.

I tried telling people how overrated VaTech was and Stanford was free money at -3 but all they could say is how they won 10 straight, but against who and how much?

As I stand defending VT, a team which is 0 and everything versus good opponents, I realize that I'm not standing on good footing, but 6th or 7th toughest?

That's saying the Big East and MAC conferences are better than the ACC. I see that we lost to JMU, but you must also see that any given sunday says that just as VT could have won last night against Stanford, so could JMU have won against the Hokies. I'll take our team to win the majority just as you'd take Standford in the OB.

And yes, I'm fighting to see the ACC bumped up to 5th toughest.

    Pretty sure Jimbo will.

Tyrod is really good but don't think he deserved to be in the Heisman watch no offense . ACC > MAC or Big East though.

And Spenda, was watching some high school all-star game with one of your QB recruits. I only watched a little but the kid looked solid. Congrats!

2 years ago the ACC had 10 bowl teams, no other league has done that. I will admit this was a weak year, but the ACC is a competitive conference top to bottom.

and we kill it in hoops anyway.

ps- i really hope fsu somehow gets invited to join the SEC i would be so happy.
