Default Need help with sleeping issues!

I have some serious sleeping problems. Earliest I fall asleep is something like 5am and its just been getting worse (almost 8am right now as I type this). I wake up mid-afternoon and I feel like my day has been wasted and feel very unproductive. I start a new job Monday, which requires me to do 8:30-5 five days a week and I have no wtf idea how I am gonna do this. If anyone had similar problems and would share how/if they fixed it, I'll have their baby.

Some ideas that I am thinking right now:

Don't sleep right now, just stay awake until 10-11pm and go to sleep and try to fix sleepy cycle from sunday? Thats just a specific thing for today.

Some general ideas that I am thinking about trying:

Masterbating right before going to sleep? Seems logical to be sleepy afterwards lol
Sleeping pills? If so, what brand, how long before your intended time of waking up should you take it? etc. I am super anti-pill-popping but I am willing to try it if it will help.
Hmmm...working out/adding more physical activity during the day? So that I would get tired and want to pass out? (This one seems unlikely that I would try lol but would it help?)

Yep...das about all the ideas I can think of right now.

You haven't had any structure to your life in however long. You'll get back on sleep schedule in no time.

Also, I've heard hanging out with Surviva causes sleepiness/boredom. Just an idea.

I've got the same issues with sleeping. I could write an essay about how bad it is and for how long it has been, but I won't, you'll just have to take my word for it.

I've made some progress over the past couple weeks and I'm really happy with it. I've been getting up before noon and it feels amazing.

Anyways, what I've had to do is: wake up to an alarm clock. This is something that I cut out of my life 3 years ago and I was really happy with that decision. I hated starting every day with that stupid buzzer sound, or the sound of shitty radio music. I also loved sleeping until my body was refreshed.

However, I've discovered that it's not worth it (you'll eventually get the rest you need, just takes practice and time to adjust). Waking up to an alarm every morning is a small sacrifice towards accomplishing what I want to accomplish, which is enjoying sunshine. For you, I would set an alarm and force yourself out of bed. It's hard as fuck getting up and the day will feel off but you will get to sleep very easily that night and will notice a great improvement after only 24 hours. It gets easier and easier as the week progresses.

BooG is right about the lack of structure in your life being the problem. I haven't had structure in my life for a long time, until two weeks ago: my alarm clock.

    Exercise and don't sleep in

exercise and train your subconscious to get out of bed when you wake up. i never ever ever ever get up right when an alarm goes off or when i wake up, so naturally, i continue to sleep in.

here is an article that i found interesting on the subject of early rising - How to Become an Early Riser

Anyone who has a decent exercise and eating schedule has pretty much zero sleep problems. Inactivity and regular alcohol intake (even just one or two drinks a day) are the two biggest causes of sleep problems.

Hit the gym a couple times a week for a good sweat and don't drink during the week and I guarantee that you will not have issues within two weeks.

Cheers for the blog link gmml, I shall be putting that into effect pretty much immediately, it all sounds good

I've read a lot about avoiding TV/computer time for like 30mins-hour before going to bed. I can't remember why but it works for me. I do some light reading or meditate. Meditating when tired is difficult, mostly because it's easy to fall asleep and not concentrate, so maybe that's good for you.

GMML brings up good points, but pretty much what jyms says. when I'm working out regularly sleeping is no problem. when I'm not going out on the weekends and/or not drinking during the week, same thing.

When I need to turn around from waking up at noon to waking up in the morning I just set an alarm so that I only sleep for 4h the day before. If I'm still not tired at around midnight the next day, I read a french book. Or the Great Gatsby. Knocks me straight out.

I don't usually set an alarm to wake up, but when I do I pick the least annoying sound. Something that will wake me up gradually.
My sister has a light alarm. I've never used it, but I think it's a neat idea. It's a 1000W UV light that starts getting brighter and make chirping sounds about half an hour before you set it, and gradually gets louder and brighter. If I had to wake up to an alarm every day I would get something like that.

I've wanted one of these forever: Wake up easily with a revolutionary waking system!

Problem is they are $325 here and I can't justify that to myself

Having a kid does exactly yhis. I get by on way less sleep now but acrually feel more awake more of the time and am far more productive at both home and work.

I suck so badly at getting up that it makes me feel like a weak, slave to apathy who just wastes every drop of daylight. I've been planning to kick this habit this week (well for fucking ages but more so than usual this week) and this thread's came up at the right time. If I'm still up at this time tomorrow - 4:28am - I'ma cut my cock off.
