fwiw i also hate BB and I am really bitter he's so smart.

3/4 on ATH today actually agreed with BB. Perhaps there is hope for sports writers?

Also there was an ESPN poll that had 53% of people saying if the Pats punt the colts win. Perhaps there is hope for humanity?

Let me know when we're done because next we have to talk about Jones Drew kneeling at the 1.

That is funny because an earlier ESPN poll showed that most people thought there was no excuse for BB's decision.

I don't think if the Pats punt the Colts win,,, maybe 40% or so.

Jones Drew kneeling at the 1 = great decision.

A FG from that range is like 98%. Sanchez driving for a touchdown might be like 20-30% or so on the ensuing drive, factor in the 2 point nonsense and it's not even close really.
  3. #303
Bah. Colts win > 50% of the time when NE punts. NE had no pass rush and they had more enough time to take the underneath stuff vs. the prevent.

MJD is one of my favorite players and I so wish we had taken him over Addai. One can only imagine the repercussions of having a player who can actual shed a tackler on the Colts team. Though, I'm not sure how you label someone "smart" for doing what he is told to. Kinda like calling someone lucky bc the other guy messes up.

Their opinions aside, ATH is the worst show on television.

someone suggested on 1st down from the 28 the Pats should have brought like 8, either getting a big sack, incompletion, or giving up the 6 and getting the ball back, thoughts?

horrible example of why i think it's generally a bad idea to visit nfl stadiums wearing the visitors jersey. well it's a great example, just a horrible horrible story:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...by-bears-fans/

Steelers fan Zack Heddinger says he was blinded at a Chicago bar by Bears fans after some trash talking gone awry.

Heddinger was in the Windy City for the Steelers 17-14 loss to Chicago in Week Two.

"Basically, I guess, my buddies had gotten into an altercation and they offered a drink as a peacemaker from what I understand," Heddinger said.

    That's where things get weird.

According to ABC4 in Pittsburgh, Heddinger passed out and his heart stopped four times after he was rushed to a local hospital. Initially, doctors just thought he was drunk. But they quickly suspected something else was up.

Police are now investigating the incident, and the local bar, Kitty O'Shea's, is fully cooperating. Doctors now believe his drink could have been spiked with toxic grain alcohol.

Heddinger says he can't remember what happened that day, but hasn't been able to see since. He's taking oxygen treatments to recover his part of his eyesight, but doctors aren't very hopeful.

"I don't think they tried to kill me. I think they tried to hurt me, but the killing came pretty close," said Heddinger.

tbh Steelers fans are the worst and they're everywhere. No matter where I've been on a Sunday there are always dbag Steeler fans

doesn't excuse what was done, if true, that's ridiculous/inexcusable and I hope the bar loses it's license and the right people are prosecuted.

Weird story. I've never heard of anyone going blind just from getting too drunk. There must have been something worse than grain alcohol (which just means pure alcohol) in his drink if it was spiked.
  11. #311
yeah, methanol makes you blind, grain ethanol should not

I think they meant Bootlegged grain alcohol. Trick is, if alcohol isn't distilled properly, and if it isn't handled well, a very small amount of bootleg alcohol has a chemical that attacks your occular nerves, strangulating them.

That's why they were giving him oxygen treatments to him, in hopes that the o2 would help the portions of the occular nerves that were still alive get kicking again. If any part of the nerve survives his eyesight has a chance.

It's another reason making your own booze is illegal, because if it isn't done right, it can make you blind, or even kill you.

Yeah, they are the real America's Team. When the Steelers play primetime away games their fans are somehow are louder than the home teams fans. When they beat Denver a few weeks back was a really good example cuz, well, its FRICKIN DENVER!!! I mean I can understand when they do it to some team close to Pittsburgh like they did to the Redskins last year at FedEx Field, but damn, Denver?!?!

I think it's because there was a mass exodus from Pittsburgh in the early 1980s. So all the people who fell in love with the 70s Steelers were sent scatter-shot across the country. Now you can find a Steelers bar in any town where NFL football teams play.

there isn't an NCAA thread, so let me just say it here.

    LSU......

so so so so soooooooooooo much fail.

the coach said after the game "well the field goal unit wasn't ready to go on the field." are you really so terrible of a strategic artist to be soooo short-sighted to not see that you might have to get a field goal in that spot, and they aren't going to have any more than 1 or 2 secs on the clock to run on the field and kick it?!?!?!

his taking literally 12 secs to decide to call a timeout is also proof of his lack of foresight.

It's gonna be so awesome when we get an OL and DL, some WR's and LB's, and a secondary that doesn't suck. Not many holes to fill, some day we will be awesome!

comedic relief is being delivered in the browns vs lions game, as expected.

what isn't expected is 24 first quarter points (and counting...) by the browns.. the team that had 9 of those in the first 9 games (total, not average).

If there's anything that really irks me about the Browns losing it's this:

This past draft the Lions took Stafford first overall... and he gets a contract for 6 years/$72 million, $41.75m guaranteed. Now, some contracts have fluffed up numbers and I'm not sure how much of that $72m can realistically be earned, but judging from the guaranteed money, likely a large percentage of it.

If the Browns end up picking first overall, they are looking at a significant bump up to take a QB. And of course, next year may be the last without a rookie slotting system.

Having to pay a college player $12million/year completely destroys the integrity of the draft. It's supposed to help bad teams get better, not stay bad.

I think the top-10 in the draft is going to be changed in the next few years, some analysts were discussing a few players coming out after their junior years to perhaps not get thumped by some new rookie salary cap.

i'm pretty sure the pats record is 21 games. I still think the colts will lose a game before the playoffs, but with only 1 team with a winning record left to play i like our chances to go 16-0.

They'll lay an egg I assume. They have played down to almost every opponent this year imo, and eventually that will bite them.

They should have no fear of the Texans. Pls rewind footage of Brian Cushing vs. Dallas Clark. I vaguely recall him having a career game, getting iso'ed quite often. If Shaub plays a mistake free and they can run the ball, then I think Houston has what it needs to take us down...assuming Manning has another bad (2 TD 300 yd) game.

What Chris Johnson is doing this year is absolutely unreal.

If I had to make a list of the best RB's in the NFL right now, it would go like this:

    1. Chris Johnson
    2. DeAngelo Williams
    3. Adrian Peterson

Also, great game going on here. Both of these teams are underrated IMO.

I enjoy these AFC South games faaaaar more than those shitty NFC East games. The RBs aren't always hurt (minus Addai, but he is the least relevant starting RB in the NFL going on 3 or 4 years now).

It's also really nice to see VY doing something other than thowing INTs.

has to be a top-5 overrated/overpaid player, got burnt multiple times tonight by players I've never heard of and dropped that pick. Special stuff from a guy who held out of training camp for more dough.

Chiefs at Chargers, I'm expecting a beat down by the hands of the Chargers but I was surprised last week against the Steelers, so who knows? The Chiefs are not over the hump by any means, even with a win over the SB champs, but it's a start. I don't think we necessarily won that game, it's more the Steelers played uncharacteristically and at other times sucked, but a win is a win I guess.

I think I like the direction the Chiefs are headed, even though I haven't been a big fan of Todd Haley yet. I think there's a method to his madness and a few years from now I might be singing his praises. I'm not 100% sold on it yet but I think I like where they're going...

Chiefs need to win an overtime emontional barn burner in the 14th minute of overtime on some ugly blocked field goal. That way the Chargers end up tied with the Broncos again, and then the Chiefs will be totally spent for the Broncos game the next week.

kind of harsh, how about we beat the shit out of the Chargers and lose to the Broncos on a last second field goal?

lol I'd take that right now!

Did anyone happen to catch the Browns game? I did a little cleaning, ran a couple errands, and caught up on a little sleep. I'm guessing they ceased looking like an NFL team since they didn't play the Lions?

Also, heard on the tube that the Texans blew a 17 point lead, lol. Sorry resident FTR Texans fans.

Now that the Colts have dispatched the lowly Texans we can worry about CJ running for 150+ vs. our defense.

The Texans seem to be the ones losing these games, so don't be mad at my team.

It's pretty lols how badly the Colts offense has been performing in the 1st half the last like 5 weeks. I can't imagine how good this team is when they actually play a complete game.

Generic, overly simplified checklist of who will win a football game:

Which team passed the ball better? Saints

Which team defended the pass better (pass rush + coverage)? Saints

Who won the battle of turnovers? Saints

And it could soon be a 4 touchdown game.

The really sick thing is how many of those incompletions Brees threw that could have been completions. I mean we're talking like 2 throws away from the best game possible evaaarrr. Props to the Saints.

Let's talk about the MVP award. Farve is having his best season ever (and one of the most efficient ever by a QB). Manning is the sole source of offense on his team, Brees is playing lights out and has tons of TDs and just pitched a perfect game on a huge stage, Chris Johnson is either on or near the pace for 2K yards and has those 3 85+ which is just so insane...I think if you talk strictly which player is most valuable to his team, it's Manning and it isn't close. Colts are probably 1-10 if he's hurt Week 1. I'd probably give it to him or Chris Johnson, simply because they're doing it on teams where they're generally the only offensive threat they have, the defenses know that, and they're still getting the job done.

Give it to Chris if he hits 2k yards

That would be Tom Brady in the 2007 Divisional playoff game vs. Jacksonville. He went 26 of 28 and the 2 incompletions both hit the receivers directly in the hands and they failed to make easy catches. I have never seen anything like it and probably never again will. Perfect QB game IMO.

As for the Saints, I do not think they will be beating anyone that can score 30+ AND has a pass rush (Vikings or Cardinals perhaps). They have faced chump teams all season with no pass rush and are not quite the '07 Pats reincarnate. Lucky for them the NFC teams that normally would have the most game vs. them have all had major losses due to injury/personnel changes (Giants/Eagles mainly).

MVP is Manning, since his team is like 3-8 without him. Favre is definitely in the conversation but his team is really solid all around without him. Brees is probably going to win it but I am not sure if he is the MVP.

I dunno I kinda get the feeling Drew Brees wouldn't have trouble with the Cardinals secondary (See: home loss to Indianapolis) or the Vikings pass D (See: Baltimore Ravens!?!?!?) but I would love to see them play! With so little parity, it makes for a fairly exciting postseason imo.

It's not so much the pass d as the pass rush. I think that Brees is human like any other QB and if a team with a good pass rush gets a hold of him he will look pretty ordinary. I will give him credit for great reading skills and getting rid of the ball quickly which make it more difficult to rush him, but eventually some team will. If not they will win the super bowl.

That was my point. Teams with good pass rush but average/bad pass D generally get torched by great QBs. Think the Colts for most of this decade when facing good teams.

Unrelated, I believe that the lack of hysterical undefeated talk (remember that shit started in training camp of '07 for the Pats) despite having two 11-0 teams is directly the result of neither of the teams offering enough alliterative possibilities for the media.
