People look at our island on a map and think "they had the world's biggest empire?". We have a long and interesting history. Many foreigners, in particular Chinee and Japanese, probably know more about British history than I do. They find us interesting and respect our colonial, industrial and scientific achievements. They enjoy learning about it. The Royal Family represents a living relic of that history. That definitely brings a boost to tourism.
None of that suggests people want to come and look at Lizzy or Chuck.
And big lols that anyone, especially Chinese and Japanese, "respect our colonial achievements." Have you ever heard of the Opium Wars? Britain tried to get all of China hooked on opium, they resisted, so we attacked them. Twice. Then we helped ourselves to Hong Kong. You think that encourages respect? Fuck me, read a book.
