the informed voices on either side seem to pull out blinders when it comes to accepting data from the other side, which just halts most progress in its tracks.
That's certainly quite common.
I'd be interested in why that is, or at least what proportion of it is not just humans being flawed. What I'm getting at is that I think there are some real issues with statistics and data in a world of so many unknowns that certainty is low.
