If there's any strategy to the shutdown, it's to either stall the investigation or somehow create pressure that he can leverage to work out a deal for no prison for him or his children. - This would be a more solid theory if Trump wasn't so fucking retarded. I doubt he can think in that many steps.

As much as I like the idea that he's stalling to keep himself from getting jail time, I'm inclined to think you're right. My favoured theory is that his top advisor (Fox News) told him to dig in his heels, and so he did, and now he's too stupid to find a way out of it.

These guys at The Intercept started to see too much unrest in Latin America, everything going on at the same time, it's just too much for it to be a coincidence.

And lo and behold what did they find out with their investigation? The fucking book, while outdated as it's been in print for a while now, was right all along. Of course they don't mention it, as I'm sure they have no idea about the book or whatever, but the conclusions are spot on.
