actually as long as it's not passed back to the keeper with any part of the leg/foot the keeper can pick the ball up. If it is headed/chested/shoulderred/backed to the keeper, the keeper is allowed to pick it up.
keeper is also allowed to pick it up when the ball was passed back inadvertently, i.e. the ball was struck against him by the opposition or he made a last ditch tackle and the ball rolls back to the keeper etc.
