Civilization strives to get better. At least, it should in theory. As an example, female genital mutilation is demonstrably bad, therefore should be outlawed everywhere IMO.

Yet it isn't. In some places it's dictated by the local culture and is widespread

However, if I had the chance where I can somehow vote for it to be outlawed, then I would. No hesitation obviously

Ergo, status quo = "yes female mutilation", and I'd like it to change to "no female mutilation". Yet if the choice would instead be that I'd be forced/have to change that with something which is, again, demonstrably worse, like say, decapitation, wouldn't really make sense now would it

Well, if there is a method to something, and you want to change that method for some reason and do so democratically, then you should be able to easily demonstrate why the current method you want to change is bad and why the one you wish to change it with is better when it has to come down to a vote, in order to somehow win said vote, right?
