Anybody who says Wire and Entourage should be foregone should themselves be foregone

Wire is pretty much the greatest show of all time, and you'll realize why as you get into it

As far as dramas go

Carnivale
Rome
Six Feet Under
Firefly
Dexter

are all pretty much at the very top. I would personally wait for Dexter to finish the series before watching because that always makes the whole experience better.

Carnivale was canceled prematurely because viewers are dumbasses, but had it been finished it would beat out Wire as best ever (its second season conclusion however was a strong conclusion for the story). It is basically a super unique gigantic fantasy novel put onto the screen, and you gotta wanna stick it out because there is a shitload of backstory and buildup just like you find in large novels. For example: the first 8 or so episodes are largely buildup to revealing some of the real plot and reasons behind what the story and world. I do believe though that anybody with an imagination and sense of awesomeness who watches the full two seasons of Carnivale will know it to be amazing. The show is seriously a step above most everything else. Brother Justin is probably the greatest character of all time. I literally get chills thinking about it. Carnivale may be the darkest and most mysterious show put out to date

Rome is l.do. It got canceled prematurely as well, but because it was very hard to make. HBO went all out with it, and the product was some of most entertaining fiction. Lucius Vorenus probably qualifies as the most badass character I've seen (even moreso than Omar from Wire). A selling point should be that they're making a movie

Firefly was also canceled prematurely, but the show was the epitome of exciting. I honestly have no clue why it was canceled other than people are seriously fucking stupid and would rather jack off to Everybody Loves Raymond while their dog shits behind the sofa. A selling point for Firefly is that they thought every show was their last so they gave it their all. A sad moment for cinema when it was canceled. Easily one of the best shows of all time. They also made a great movie, and I've heard a sequel in the works

Six Feet Under is what could be described as a pure drama. Very awesome show, like VERY awesome, but not in any gimmicky kind of way. It's just a drama about characters and goes through five seasons of further developing and changing characters and story. The show is literally about nothing but a family's life, yet it's about as gripping as it gets, and I've always remembered the final scene as being the perfect ending. By the time the series ends, you feel like you literally know the characters

Another mention could be Twin Peaks. I haven't seen it, but it is the only top rated series I have not seen, and is likely also very awesome

If you like fun stuff just go with Wire, Firefly, Dexter, and Rome. If you also enjoy psychological intrigue and deeper themes, add in Carnivale and Six Feet Under and probably Twin Peaks
