Once upon a time there were these colony thingies here in what is now known as the United States of America. These colony thingies had lots of natural resources around them to get by, but if they wanted manufactured goods they had to get those from Europe. Back when these colony thingies were around there were no planes, trains, or automobiles, so if you wanted something from Europe it got sent by a ship.
People would say, "I'm getting the package sent to me via a boat from Europe." Since people are fucking lazy they shortened it to, "The package is being shipped here."
It became a part of our culture's jargon, so much so that when people later sent things by train they were still "shipping it," with a boat never being involved in the process. Now things are "shipped" by cars and planes, and of course, poker dealers, and again, no freaking boats!
This is where I think "ship it" was stolen from, but it's only a guess.
