Default Possibly buying new computer, help a brotha out.

Ok, my computer is about 5 years old I think. I built it back in the day, it was sick fast. One summer it over heated and I have had to underclock it ever since. It still ran poker stuff fine and even some games. Recently though its just been going slow as hell, I guess I could try and fix the cpu problem, and maybe get some more ram, ect, but come on its 4+ years old. The thing is Im pretty close to broke, but I am getting a financial aid check hopefully within the week.

    -My budget is 600-900 probably.

-I dont feel like building another system, I just want a ready made box.

-I was thinking one of hte low end dell xps'

-I have 2 204b's and I would need the card to support dual dvi, well I need atleast 1 dvi and 1 vga, but Id prefer dual dvi since my current setup is 1 and 1, and the vga looks really harsh.

-What exactly do I need to run smooth with 8+ tables pt hud ect running?

-Will this thing be able to run any decent games? Its not really that big of a deal to me, but it would be nice to know I could finish hl2 finally..

    thanks for your help guys!

    What you need is ram.
Today, ram is dirt cheap, you can get 2GB easy.

A dell dimension 9200c will do the trick. Choose the onboard videocard (intel) and remove the monitor from the build. Add 2Gb ram, keep the middle processor choice.

    Buy yourself this card instead.

i would personally get one from tiger direct. They have a ton of different deals on desktops. You can also reuse the card your running your monitors on . www.tigerdirect.com is the link. gl

if you build your own you will have to fix it. Depending on how much you value your time and enjoy/hate working on computers you may not be saving at all

Never read any stickies or announcements
just get a few of these babies, stick them in your current setup, and voila! you're good to go.

Go Dell, but rip the shit out of your old computer that you want to keep like expansion and video cards and such. Also, newegg is good to find cheap new parts, and check local newspapers and bulletin boards. There has to be some broke as hell college kid selling parts or a whole computer for less than it is worth.

I cant use my old video card because its umm.. jeez cant remember the accronym, but all new mobos are PCIe, so that wont work. Also I just want to keep my old computer as a torrent server (read: porn storage to shield my work computer from stupid viruses.)

I wont build my own for the reason swigg gave, I just dont have the time or the patience to try and trouble shoot problems myself anymore.

Bode I think that you can select a diff card that has dual dvi, and it bumps the price up a bit.

Im going to check out tiger direct and the dimension9200 or whatever, and probably pick between those two.
