I thought this movie was fun. I think Im a sucker for a movie with good set pieces that carry a visual theme throughout. This is why I was pretty turned off by T:Salvation. Im not mentioning this movie in this thread because I think its unwatchable, I just think the sets were pitiful. Even the CGI was really bad at times. In a scene on the outskirts of the machines HQ, there are these big yellow construction vehicles driving around... only thing different about them and the ones you see building a new lane on your local highway is that they had a little red dot and no human driver.
Also the visual theme was completely inconsistent, and at times made no sense at all. It went from the expected post apocalyptic terminator stuff, to transformers, to the interior of the spaceship in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
"Transformers was a blockbuster! We need towering robots that transform/combine with other machines! We'll be rich!" Thats all I could think as I watched those scenes. And whats with the machine HQ having hallways and computer interfaces for humans? Seriously, that was just off putting.
Like I said, the movie is quite entertaining, but I just dont understand why they had to depart from the visual styling that we saw in the scenes from the previous movies that showed the apocalyptic future. Also, what happened to lasers... they shot lasers in TII:Judgement Day.. why are they now shooting conventional rounds? BAH! so much potential squandered away for no reason.
