My political perspective has no bearing on this - I was making an example of Palin in this case. I'm just wondering whether anyone actually falls for this shit where people completely ignore what they've been asked and spout their own little advoidance speech - we saw it all the time in the UK under Bliar.

    Reply: "omfg we drill oil"

First of all "What IS the "Bush Doctrine"?!?"
That's a trick fkng question and you damn well know it so please kindly remain silent!

Secondly, That interview was biased from the onset and everybody knows it. He was a condescending and sarcastic asswipe to Governor Palin looking down on her over his friggin spectacles like a principal would look at the school troublemaker.
Screw him and the partisan leftist liberal news machine that he works for.

how exactly is it a trick question?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_Doctrine

He was asking her how she felt about the foreign policy changes that bush adopted and she did not know how to answer because she did not know that's what the bush doctrine referred to. She is possibly going to be our president one day, she should not need the bush doctrine explained to her. There is no trick question here.

    Bullcrap!
The so-called "Bush Doctrine" is basically a friggin generic term that could mean just about any number of things and anybody without a severe case of brain cramps can figure that out.
Hell, I could trun around and ask Senator Obama "What is the Clinton Doctrine?" and he would be just as confused on finding a right answer at that moment in time.
Especially if this question came out of far left field as was the case in this biased interview -w- Governor Palin.
The liberal gotcha game is so tacky and worn out it's a friggin cliche'.

He's not wrong. It was a pretty generic question which could have a billion answers. Read the first sentence in the wiki link, or let me summarize:

The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles [...] the phrase initially described the policy that [...] later it came to include additional elements such as ...

In other words, its a retardedly generic term that essentially means "we did something different than we did in the 60s". It contains no particular policy change, nor was this doctrine ever formally stated by the administration. The wiki notes that some of these policies were codified in a National Security Council text entitled the National Security Strategy of the United States published on September 20, 2002. But doesn't state which. You couldn't compare it to say the Truman Doctrine which was pretty clearly delineated.

Non story. Obama couldn't have answered it, neither could McCain, neither could you or I. Its a "gotcha" piece, aimed at making someone look stupid.

I'm just wondering whether anyone actually falls for this shit where people completely ignore what they've been asked and spout their own little advoidance speech - we saw it all the time in the UK under Bliar.
Its just as pervasive -- and annoying, here in the states. You can ask any politician about any subject and they will just completely ignore you. Its especially great during the debates where it goes something like this:

Moderator: Mr Candidate, can you summarize your position on tax relief for the middle class?

Candidate: Yes I can but I just want to mention one thing: Abortion is wrong, and I've fought against it for years.

    Crowd: *facepalm*

It's pretty fucking obvious and yet NO ONE will say "No shut the fuck up and answer the question" except late night talk show hosts and the occasional Daily Show appearance.

The only politician i've heard recently that has given the no BS "straight talk" has been Ron Paul. And even then only in his book (which is sick good and changed my outlook on politics completely and is around the torrent sites on audiobook hint hint) not in his speaking engagements.

And I still wouldn't vote for him.

I'm coming full circle from full fledge activism, interest, and involvement back to full fledged apathy now that I've realized I'm tired of choosing the lesser of two evils because neither is a good choice. Obama has the judgement of a drunk guy with no DD, and McCain sucked enough Bush dick that I think it might have been Bush's sperm that gave him skin cancer on his chin. (Yes, I'm aware thats anachronistic you fucks)

I've decided the upcoming congressional election is far more important than the presidential one and I think it truly is.

The fundamental problem with American politics is that there are only two sides, far left and far right, and the majority of rational people fall squarely in the middle, forcing us to choose which guy we hate the least.

What a way to create progress.

well euph I do agree its a fairly open question, but none the less it seemed that she had no clue at all what he meant. Maybe she just got flustered and handled it terribly, but either way she didnt come across as smooth. So Ill give you as much as "its a gotcha piece," however I still think she comes across as not too bright, or at least not at all quick on her feet.

    Disagree.

The Bush Doctrine is generally used in reference to Bush's policy of preemptive action (part in bold below).

"Twenty months into his presidency, George W. Bush releases his administration's National Security Strategy (NSS). It is the first time the various elements of the Bush Doctrine have been formally articulated in one place. The 33-page document presents a bold and comprehensive reformulation of U.S. foreign policy. It outlines a new and muscular American posture in the world -- a posture that will rely on preemption to deal with rogue states and terrorists harboring weapons of mass destruction. It states that America will exploit its military and economic power to encourage "free and open societies." It states for the first time that the U.S. will never allow its military supremacy to be challenged as it was during the Cold War. And the NSS insists that when America's vital interests are at stake, it will act alone, if necessary."

OK fine whatever, maybe it was a "gotcha" question. But you can't deny that Sarah Palin continues to lie about fucking everything.

She supported the "bridge to nowhere" until it became unpopular (and KEPT the fucking money the fed govt gave her for it).

She fired the Wasilla police chief and librarian for not supporting her in the mayoral campaign.

She claimed polar bears should not be on the endangered species list according to "state wildlife officials" and these officials said it was bullshit http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us...in&oref=slogin

She says she does not "judge" gays but her church holds conferences to convert them.

She said in the interview "I think you are a cynic because show me where I have ever said that there's absolute proof that nothing that man has ever conducted or engaged in has had any affect, or no affect, on climate change."
She said year ago "I'm not a doom and gloom environmentalist like Al Gore blaming the changes in our climate on human activity."

She says she is the governor of a state that produces "nearly 20% of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." It is about 2.5%

She is an incompetent jesus-freak political ploy fucking moron.

She says she does not "judge" gays but her church holds conferences to convert them.
The truth is her church did NOT hold the conference, another church in another city held the conference (and the word conference is correct. An organization PAID that church to use their facility) and the pastor of Palin's church was asked to put a notice in the weekly bulletin, which he says he did because to do otherwise would frankly be rude. Palin did not attend the conference.

Only other one I know was on uhh Anderson Cooper last night.

She says she is the governor of a state that produces "nearly 20% of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." It is about 2.5%
Ok there's not a huge difference here but its emblamatic -- why do people insist on lying when fucking talking about her lie!? Its not hard to look this shit up, there's even a non-partisan organization that does it for you!

    From factcheck.org:

Palin would have been correct to say that Alaska produces just over 14 percent of all the oil produced in the U.S
However, she SAID "of the US domestic supply of ENERGY", not OIL. She's definitely stretching truth (McCain parroted the exact same line -- using energy not oil -- in an interview a few days later) but the truth is there are a fuckton of a lot of forms of energy other than oil, namely nuclear, that put off a lot more energy for the US than oil.

Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
    Next...
She fired the Wasilla police chief and librarian for not supporting her in the mayoral campaign.
Again not true. She fired the Wasilla police chief because he refused to fire her sisters ex-husband who regularly beat her sister, and made violent threats against the entire family. While that's not a particularly good thing for her to do, at least I can understand it. Its not because the chief "voted for the other guy", its because he put up the "thin blue wall" to protect his buddies.

My favorite smear has become "McCain cant use a computer!" which is factually true but totally unfucking fair. He can't use a computer because his war injuries won't permit him to put his arms in the 'typing' position. He was actually voted most technologically advanced senator by several magazines a few years ago.

The truth is he sits in bed every night with his wife and together they go through the emails.

Also note that Bill Clinton could not type, and in Dick Morris' book "Because He Could" Dick talked about a speech that Clinton wanted everyone to think he wrote himself -- so Dick Morris typed it (he wrote the speech), and as each page came off the typewriter he handed it to Clinton who wrote it down by hand. Over 300 pages of it.

I'm sick of talking politics because everyone fucking lies, stretches, distorts the truth.

When I read Scott McClellans book I thought he was a hack looking to make a buck now that he's jobless (and he probably is) but I'm beginning to agree with his point of view. The culture in Washington of the "permanent campaign" is fucking this country in the eye. Where everything has to be spun, and where the truth doesn't matter... I had hopes Obama would be different. He ain't. McCain *used* to be different, but he ain't now...

Missed the bolded part. And its just another half truth perpetuated by the Obama camp.

One accusation claims then-Mayor Palin threatened to fire Wasilla’s librarian for refusing to ban books from the town library. Some versions of the rumor come complete with a list of the books that Palin allegedly attempted to ban. Actually, Palin never asked that books be banned; no books were actually banned; and many of the books on the list that Palin supposedly wanted to censor weren't even in print at the time, proving that the list is a fabrication. The librarian was fired, but was told only that Palin felt she didn’t support her. She was re-hired the next day. (From Factcheck.org)

My second favorite smear, because my roomate likes to repeat it soooo much:

    # He [Obama] said McCain, far from being a maverick who’s "broken with his party," has voted to support Bush policies 90 percent of the time. True enough, but by the same measure Obama has voted with fellow Democrats in the Senate 97 percent of the time.

Obama painted McCain as a Republican partisan who's supported the unpopular President Bush consistently:

Obama: And next week, we'll also hear about those occasions when he's broken with his party as evidence that he can deliver the change that we need. But the record's clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time.

It's true that McCain's voting support for Bush policies has averaged slightly above 89 percent since Bush took office, according to Congressional Quarterly’s vote studies. But it has ebbed and flowed. It reached a low of 77 percent in 2005. Last year it was 95 percent. By comparison, Obama's own record of supporting Bush policies has averaged slightly under 41 percent since the senator took office. However, Obama's voting record is no less partisan than McCain's. He has voted in line with his party an average of nearly 97 percent of the time.

eupho, I used to think you were a douche, but actually everything you said is completely on the money.

Taglines, memes, catchy advertising, demographic analysis of policies - it almost seems like power for the sake of power.

Allow me to quote from 1984:

"Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know what no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me."

I IMMEDIATELY rewinded that part just to see if I heard it right. Dubya's insistence to say nucular instead of nuclear is too damn funny and then she goes and says the same thing.

Also, I would still hit it.

Looks like Governor Palin is handling herself pretty well on the Hannity and Colmes interview so far.
I really dig this lady, her husband is one very lucky man i.m.o.
She's attractive, intelligent, succesful, and powerful.
    Very hot indeed. :P

Haven't really read the thread but if this miserable cunt and Mccain win we are so completely fucked. You might want to wait to impregnate someone until after the election just in case.

As opposed to the T-Ball questions that CNN and MSNBC have been playing with Obama?

at first i thought rocco would be good for my image because most people think im totally blind partisan. now i think hes just giving conservatives a bad rep.

rocco- don't make your argument, "...because you're a lib..."

its completely ad hominem. if you actually backed up your statements with proof and not you are a blind lib, you might get some respect. granted, they wont agree with you no matter what you say most likely, but at least they wont view you as a troll. right now everyone is thinking (pure speculation) that you listen to conservative talking heads and regurgitate everything they say verbatim, but dont have any understanding of why you believe it.

Typical sexist and hater comment from a left wing liberal nut job. Shouldn't really be a surprise, I guess equal rights for women only if the woman is a leftist and not a conservative eh?
    You friggin hypocrite!

You leftists are so blinded by your own biased partisanship and hatred of any thing resembling conservatism that it's a wonder how you can even see past your own fkng noses to drive a fkng vehicle!

You, being too difficult to categorize, will be part of rocco's mass culling for convenience's sake.

Plus you subscribe to 'liberal' social values so you're like....half a filthy leftist.

Maybe you'll just get a hand cut off or something
