    what is star wars?

I totally loved it. It has some bad points, but it delivers a very satisfying end and really pulls the two sets of films together.

How would you rank the movies from your fav to worst....I have not seen III yet but I have a feeling it will top my list. But as of right now:

    1. Empire Strikes Back
    2. Star Wars 'A New Dawn'
    3. Return of The Jedi (ewoks annoy me but still great)
    4. Clone Wars
    5. The Jar Jar Binks trainwreck

Going to see Sith after the weekend mayhem.

Throughly enjoyed the film. I enjoyed Ep II though, so your mileage may vary. This is what I wanted to see out of the prequils. This is the story where we all know what is going to happen, we just don't know how. It was fun watching it unfold.

So after seeing Sith it still ranks behind A New Dawn(just kidding Xianti)...A New Hope? I have read reviews saying this was the best of them all. Lucas does need a slap for some of his dialogue and 'love' scenes between Anakin and Padme...

    LOL, you can't be serious.

    To white text we go!

He's injured the entire movie (By Windo just before the begining of the movie.) and does nothing but flee and get his ass pwn3d for about an hour.

I believe I liked RotJ quite a bit back in the day. I was nine for god's sake. Have you watched it recently? It's at least as fluffy and unconvincing as TPM.
I'd put those two a little notch above clone wars, which I found utterly forgettable.
What happened in Clone Wars again? Anakin got to know Padme a little better and then killed some sandpeople? And then Saruman went apeshit?
  20. #20
    My rankings...

    Empire Strikes Back
    A New Hope
    RotJ
    Clone Wars
    Phantom Menace

Phantom Menace was just bad, Clone Wars was slightly better but nothing compared to the first 3 films.

I'll see the new one this weekend or maybe sometime next week, whenever I'm free.

    Nah,

4 sabres < Obi Wan - Seen in Ep 3
Obi Wan > Aniken - Seen in Ep 3

Thus 4 sabres may or may not be > Aniken

DV > Obi Wan - Seen in Ep 4

    Therefore, final analysis says

DV > Obi Wan > Grevious
    DV > Grevious

It's a generally accepted fact that Lucas is terrible at directing love scenes. He does them like he's a prepubescent boy. But then again, that sort of mentality produces some great action/genre adventure flicks.

He should just avoid the love scenes altogether.

I loved it. It's more like the original 3.

Of course love scene sucked but they are just minime in the film.

Loved the end, with the Death Star at it's beginning...

It is a great link between EP1-2 and EP 4-5-6.

    my rank:

    Empire strike back
    A new hope
    Revenge of the Sith
    ROTJ
    attack of the clones
    phantom menace

If nothing else, this movie is awesome becuase of all the amazing plotpoints that occur. Basically everything that is alluded to in the future movies occurs in this one.

And I also loved the part where Palpatine talked about his master.

I haven't seen it yet, but I hear there are references to Boba Fett. Are there any references to Han Solo? They should have showed him as a young pilot for the Empire.. or Republic.

Wouldn't Han be but a young lad at this point in time?

No Han Solo - but CHEWBACCA! <Cue wookie noises.>

Well, Han is older than Luke by at least 10 years if not more... maybe they could have shown him in pilot school or something.

He would have gone to pilot school when he was 10?

    I said AT LEAST 10.

And how the Hell should I know when kids in a distant galaxy long long ago go to pilot school???? That annoying kid Anakin was piloting garbage at age 5!

Oh, maybe he has to get a permit at age 16 first as well and drive with supervised adult.

Oh ... I forgot ... Han is in the movie. The at least 10-year-old Han shows up and starts making out with the at least 10-second-old baby Leah. That was a hot scene! She even had the mini hair buns.

    My mistake.

Revenge of the Sith is probably my Top 3 favorite Star Wars Movies...

It's definetly #1 for Action of all the trilogy.
Return of the Jedi, and Empire strikes back are my favorite as well... This one totally blew me away too.

Palpatine's master must be a character we have not been exposed to. Does he actually appear? Or is he another legacy character that is just alluded to?

For all his power, the ability to save everyone around him from death. He couldn't save himself when his apprentice killed him in his sleep.

IN WHITE: I believe he's Anakin's "father." He also had the ability to create life from mitochlorians (the force stuff). A power only he had.

One thing kinda bothered me. When they go to arrest that leader of the Senate Guy who's actually a Sith lord, why do 3 jedi go down immediately? You'd think they'd be harder to kill than that...

and general grievous (however you spell his name) spends pretty much the entire movie getting his ass handed to him. haha. He sucks. Xianti: time to change your avatar.

I wish they'd focused on teh space battles mroe. I loved the CGI!

I just saw the movie tonight. I agree. He was lame. He was running for his life the entire time.

How the hell can they make him such a bad-ass in Clone Wars, but turn him into such a pussy in the movie? It's like it wasn't even the same character. I was seriously disappointed.

Great movie but I didn't like the way Skywalker's character turned so quickly once he cut of Samuel Jackson's hand.
  49. #49
Just saw the movie yesterday. I would say that it is probably one of the better movies made. I almost wish they could have made the older movies with the new special effects.

    Downside to EP3:
Vader Yelling, "NOOOOOOOOOOO", probably one of the gayest things I've seen, I actually laughed out loud in the theatre.

General Grevious=not a bad ass, maybe I need to see some of the clone wars cartoon but I was extremely dissapointed in him.

    Order 66 sucks my balls!

    Upsides:
The Opening scene was pretty bad ass.
    Chewbacca Rules!!!
    Obi-Wan is the man.
Yoda's Fight Scene with Darth Sidious was cool.

All in all it was a great movie. It definetly left me wanting more. so whats next Episode 3.5 or 7?..LOL. I seriously want another movie but only if they can make it without ruining the franchise.

PS. Hey Rilla, Great theory, would have never thought of that!

OMG you guys need to raise yr standards. This movie was bad. Not "From Justin to Kelly" bad, sure, ... more like "Matrix Revolutions" bad, i.e. if you really wanted it to be good to justify the long wait for closure, you can give all the dumb stuff a pass and it's tolerable.

    SPOILERS (sorta)
Obi Wan: "Anakin is the father?"
Padme: "Well, since he's the only human I've been in the same room with for the last 2 years, and C3PO sure isn't the father, then well yes. Duh"

    Anakin: "YOU'RE the Sith Lord!"
    Darth Sidious: "Yeah, pretty much"
    Anakin: "You're pretty much Satan"
DS: "Yeah. But I can teach you neat stuff."
    Anakin: "Really?"
    DS: "I promise"
Anaking: "Well, a promise from Satan is all I need. kneels Hail Master! How many eight-year-olds would you like me to kill?"
    DS: "A lot"

Chancellor: "Since the Jedi tried to kill me, we're going to be an empire now"
    Applause from the Senate
    Padme: This is terrible!
Padme's Secretary or Whatever: I thought we were already an empire ...

Yoda: There's a dead guy who wants to talk to you...
    Obi Wan: Who?
    Yoda: Your old master
    Obi Wan: Where?
Yoda: He's just off to the left side of the screen since we couldn't get Liam Neeson to appear in this movie for any amount of money.

I could go on and on. I think I will, later.

Le Foo is right. It was ok i guess. it felt a lot like watching someone play a video game. pretty, sucky dialog, not much tension because somebody might "die". knowing obi-wan and yoda live to episode four made some fights a lot less cool. the fight with General Grevious comes to mind.

it was cute. pretty sets, neat looking bad guys. sucky dialog, not much drama. everything i'd expect when watching someone play a video game.
    Noooooooooooooooo!!

LeFou - that was awesome. "Forward to my friends"-worthy.

I enjoyed the movie to some extent, which is more than I can say for The Phantom Jar-Jar, or Attack of the Forgettable Special Effects and Really Bad Acting. The last half was pretty good and suitably dark. The climactic scenes with Anakin and Obi-Wan were decent. The little pieces of continuity leading into A New Hope were pretty cool, mostly (cool: the rebel ship from the beginning of ANH; Luke's aunt and uncle on Tattooine. not cool: arbitrary lines of dialogue from Yoda and Senator Organa to clean up plot messes that Lucas accidentally created.). The scene where Anakin goes to slaughter the younglings was very well-done and disturbing, but kind of out of left field. Are we supposed to think at that point that Anakin still thinks he's somehow, kinda sorta doing the right thing? His motives and morals become really obscured during that section.

The bad stuff that prevented me from loving this movie:
    - Darth Vader should not yell "noooo!" while waving his arms at the heavens.
    - I just don't need to see Yoda flying around like Sonic the Hedgehog any more. I don't.
    - Acting mostly bad. Dialogue entirely bad.
    - You'd think with 3 whole movies to work it out, Anakin's conversion would make more sense when it actually happened.
    - The previously mentioned continuity cleanup is excruciating. "Have the droid's mind wiped." "Why, Senator..?" "So the events in the next movie make sense... duuuhhhh." Also why exactly is Yoda going into exile? One minute he's all "destroy the Sith, we MUST" and the next minute he's all "Failed I have... to exile I must go." Palpatine didn't cripple him, so what's up?
    - General Grievous was a letdown.
  55. #55
Good to know I'm not alone (roflcopter sonic the hedgehog) Here's more.

Anakin: I have brought peace, justice, freedom and security to my new Empire.
    Obi-Wan: Your new Empire?
Anakin Skywalker: Don't make me kill you.
Obi-Wan: I'm not trying to make you kill me, I'm trying to make you repeat what you said about "your empire"? Do you see why?

    Grievous: Kill them!
Anakin and Obi-Wan destroy approximately 13,000 drone robots
    Grievous: runs away

Anakin lands in the middle of Mount St. Helen's and walks into a room full of people I've never seen and don't know who they are
One of Those People: Hail, Lord Vader! (or something)
    Anakin: kills them
    Me: ???

Darth Sidious: into cell phone Execute Order Number Sixty Six
Storm troopers kill 5 or 6 Jedi whom I vaguely recall having been in other scenes in some of these movies
    Yoda: to Obi-Wan Run away?
    Obi-Wan: Yeah, I think so
    They run away

Those were the leaders (suppliers, really) of the droid army. The one who spoke was the Vice-roy (what?) of the Trade Federation. Maybe watch ep I and II again?

so i gotta say, lord of the rings was way way more complicated. lot's of characters who's names sound like other characters. never had to tell anybody to go watch 1 and 2 again. even if they hadn't seen 1 and 2, the movie was put together well enough to avoid (most of) that wtf is going on nonsense.

I like star wars, it's neat. but it's like watching a video game. there's no 'story' just cool special effects.

Best of the prequels, but a few points:

    1. Darth Vader should not shout "Nooooo!" with arms lifted - it's just wrong.

    2. How b$00dy long does it take to build that Death Star - 20 years?!?! It only took them a couple of years to build that half-assed fully functional one in Return of the Jedi.

    3. Wipe C3Pd'ohs memory in case he runs into Darth Vader and switches sides?

    Loved General Grievous.

    To answer your questions/comments:

    1. Ala Miles O'Keefe in "Cave Dwellers"? That's how you spell pathos!

    2. Teamsters. 'Nuff said.

    3. Yeah.

    4. Was there any point to the presence of Gen. Grievous?

I just heard this, too. I have a feeling that'll be the death of the franchise. Or at least, the allure and mystique will be gone.
Personally, I think the allure and mystique went down the drain the moment Jar-Jar opened his fcking mouth and said whatever the fck he was saying in TPM, and they just kept on sinkin'.

Did you watch Clone Wars? He was smoking every Jedi he encountered. Then he got hurt by Windu at the end. He was a major threat, that even though hurt, had to be dealt with.

III is a great movie, in the sense that it makes me want to revisit IV through VI. Action packed. Fun to watch. A little silly to see how truely stupid and misguided Anakin was.

WTF is with the love for V? Empire Strikes Back was the worst of them all. Great cliffhanger but I never really liked it b/c nothing happened. I love the last one when Vader finally turns on Sidious.

I'm going to have to get the DVD's this weekend.

i personally loved ROTS, great to see it all come together and link with the original three. after i saw ep. 3, went straight home and watched ep. 4-6. really makes you realize just how much of a rookie luke really is though after watching all those bad ass jedi in ep. 1-3.

as far as ep. 7, here's what i've heard. there's nothing in the mill right now, lucas and spielberg are busy getting indiana jones 4 going. as far as another star wars, i heard that lucas might do a prequel-prequel, or uber prequel i guess, placed 800 years before a new hope. it would take place when the jedi and the dark jedi were at war, the sith was in hiding. dark jedi are on the dark side, like the sith, but without all the structure and rules. hear they use all kinds of different color light sabers too. the jedi would destroy the dark jedi, with the help of a promising young jedi named yoda, and it would lead to the rise of the new, or as we know it, old republic.

as far as i'm concerned, i just like being entertained, and with the exception of jar jar butthair, all the movies did that for me, and i liked them all. not particularly equally, but i didn't hate any of them, own them all, except ROTS of course, and watch them more often than a lot of movies i own. that's just how i see it.
"But they were suited?!?! You idiot!!"
