I was just reading an article in a pc magazine about cleaning computers. They recomend that you DONT use alcohol to clean flat panels. Most flat panels have coatings on them that the alcholhol can smudge.
LCDs
If you regularly manage to launch tomato sauce onto your LCD (including laptop displays) as I do, then a dab with a bit of water wont neccessarily work. Ammonia-based cleansers are an absolute no-no, and alcohol-based cleansers may smudge the coatings on some displays. Play it safe-- stick wit hsoft cloth and water for daily maintenance, and I recommend attacking lunch debris and other screen crud with PixelClean from ScreenTek (12$ for a kit that includes 1fl. ounce and travel wipes, www.pixelclean.com).
I know Ive seen a shitload of LCDs that have smude marks on them, probably from people using household cleaners like windext or using alcohol-based cleaners, I knwo I would go nuts if my LCD looked like that. Just go to the store and buy a cloth designed to clean glasses or monitors if they have them, get it moist with some warm water and youll be fine.
