    Default War of the Worlds

    Pretty badass movie, but the ending wasnt as good as i thought it was going to be. Has anyone else seen it yet?

    I saw the movie at 8:00 PM opening night. The movie is good for the type of movie it is suppoised to be. A suspenseful sci fi.

    If you havnt read the book, at the end your exact words will be
    " o my god, wat the fuck, that was stupid"

    I think that the character development was good and the characters were wrapped up quite well at the end of the story.

    1st half was excellent, 2nd half was not so good

    disappointing for a Spielberg movie
    take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

    i payed 7.50(well 15 cuz i have a gf) and the ending was the only bad part.

    It's not a frickin book.
    It was an old radio broadcast. No one knew what was going on. They thought it was real. That was the genius of it.
    Making it into an action movie is a stupid idea.
    To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

    I am pretty sure The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy was a radio broadcast as well but people still call it a book.

    i was gonna see this this weekend, but after the reviews, I think I'll hold off...

    btw, aren't some theaters offering money back gaurantees now due to lower than desired attendance lately?

    It was decent. Some very cool scenes, but maybe added up to less than the sum of its parts. If you ever get sucked into crap like "The Day After Tomorrow," this is like the good version of that... not the great version, but the good one. The performances are better, the moments are better, but it has some of the same weaknesses.

    I enjoyed The Day After Tomorrow. But I like all those "Something freaky is happening and the world is coming to an end" movies.

    Really? What didn't you like about it? I saw it on TV and watched it on DVD the next day. Which is rare for me unless its a really good movie/one you need to watch twice.

    It may just be my preference. I also enjoyed the Core enough to watch it twice in a short period. Maybe I'm just driven to stories about saving the world. Like it's my higher calling or something

    just seemed unbelievably fake. went to see it in theatres and it hurt to watch it all the way through. a lot of it was predictable and the only thing it offered was cool special effects.

    just me though.

    I liked the Day After Tomorrow more than the War of the Worlds, i just thought War of the Worlds was too fake and too simplistic

    Hitchhiker's Guide is definitely a book by Douglas Adams... popular in the 80s. I'm quite certain the book came before the BBC radio series, but not 100% sure.

    I loved the Day After Tomorrow for one very specific reason: In most of those world crisis movies, everything returns to normal in the denouement...The Day After Tomorrow was different in that regard and a much stronger movie for it.

    I thought War of the Worlds was spectacular! The best Sci-Fi movie I have seen in a long time!

    I don't get the predictability that some of you were speaking of tho'. I never read the book either.

    I will say that the ending dropped off rather quick with very little explanation as to why the Aliens didn't survive.

    Also, didn't Tom Cruise's ex-wife's Family seem rather "unscaved" compared to everyone else?

    That first scene where the Tripod unearths itself and starts zapping people! That was fuggin awesome! I mean... DAYUM!
